In July of 2003, the Dixie Chicks, a platinum-selling Texas-based country band, was playing a show in England when lead singer Natalie Maines decided to address the contentious debate over whether or not the United States should invade Iraq. âJust so you know, weâre on the good side with yâall,â Maines told the London audience. "We do not want this war, this violence, and weâre ashamed that the president of the United States is from Texas."
-snip-
The whole incident is worth recounting because here we are, almost 13 years later, and the lead in the Republican primary race, Donald Trump, is saying far more incendiary things about both George W. Bush and the Iraq War than Maines did, and not only is not hurting him in the polls, but may even be helping him.
During the CBS debate in South Carolina, Trump openly accused Bush of lying about Saddam Hussein concealing weapons of mass destruction to get us into Iraq. He's since softened a little, saying, "I don't know if he lied or not," but âthere are no weapons of mass destruction." What's astounding about all this is that Trump is basically right, something that almost never happens, even when it comes to his own historical record of opinions on the war.

Well, Trump is different because (insert rationalization)!
Just a reminder: it was Amanda Marcotte who wrote a piece that denied the Virgin Conception of Christ in a most hateful and distasteful way. I want to be there when the King of Kings asks her about it.
...and Trump will win in November. Suck it, Salon.
Even Rush has succumbed to DTDS as he was just squawking how he thinks and he thinks Trump supporters think that Trump could open that Apple 5C the FBI wants into:-) I’m lov’n it!
It's POTUS election season. The Typical fact & data based intelligent discussion that is usually laced with logic and reason is on vacation. There will be no talk of records, pasts, character, reason, conservative credentials or the Constitution. Only fringe emotional character assassination will do until 2017.
It feels like an intellectual level only found in the depths of DU around here when arguing between Cruz and Trump.
Don’t you get it? We don’t care about Trump’s past! We care about our/America’s Future!
Don’t you get it? Trump will say ANYTHING to get your vote whether he believes it or not!
Keep in mind that the author was at one time Silky Pony’s slander-monkey.
Fact is, there were WMDs in Iraq.
Unfortunately for those who hate the idea of trump getting in conservatism has taken a back seat to saving the country in this race. If Ted Cruz had the economic savvy and immigration sense trump has to fix these insurmountable problems and the playground fight instinct trump has necessary to beat Hillary it would be better
But he doesn’t
So there
Actually, Maines said she's ashamed that her president was from Texas. She said plenty more about Bush. Yes, she did it on a foreign stage . . . but it did spill over into other appearances. Trump is saying plenty about Bush and the war and he's doing it right here in America.
Totally ruined as a supergroup and put out of commission for a long time but they are now back together and touring the US again. They were just in our area playing at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater while in their heyday it would have playing one of the arenas in Atlanta.
Maines et al are just entertainers; people pay to hear them sing and generally feel cheated when they use up that singing time pouring forth their meaningless brain droppings. Trump, and other candidates, is in the business of letting us know what’s on his mind. However, if he used up that time to start singing...
Simple question: If it came down to Maines vs Trump, who would it be?
Absolutely correct. It's too much to hope for we'd get an apples to apples comparison.
Well once he’s in office the TRUTH will be revealed now won’t it? I’m willing and vote able to give him a chance. And if you folks are right that he is the Rep obama then Trump will undo all that o has done and wouldn’t that be grand:-)
Get on the bus, Gus,
Make a new key, Lee....
Code Pink and their leader Medea Benjamin (Right).
