Donald Trump is getting celebrated for saying the same thing that ruined the Dixie Chicks
Salon ^ | 2/17/16 | AMANDA MARCOTTE

In July of 2003, the Dixie Chicks, a platinum-selling Texas-based country band, was playing a show in England when lead singer Natalie Maines decided to address the contentious debate over whether or not the United States should invade Iraq. “Just so you know, we’re on the good side with y’all,” Maines told the London audience. "We do not want this war, this violence, and we’re ashamed that the president of the United States is from Texas."

-snip-

The whole incident is worth recounting because here we are, almost 13 years later, and the lead in the Republican primary race, Donald Trump, is saying far more incendiary things about both George W. Bush and the Iraq War than Maines did, and not only is not hurting him in the polls, but may even be helping him.

During the CBS debate in South Carolina, Trump openly accused Bush of lying about Saddam Hussein concealing weapons of mass destruction to get us into Iraq. He's since softened a little, saying, "I don't know if he lied or not," but “there are no weapons of mass destruction." What's astounding about all this is that Trump is basically right, something that almost never happens, even when it comes to his own historical record of opinions on the war.

Code Pinko approved.

Trump hurt himself with this totally unnecessary parroting of the longtime lefty mantra.

Good to see the far left acknowledge that we totally ruined the Dixie Chicks over their treason. Usually they try to deny it.

We gonna sit around arguing about how great Iraq was and we would totally do it ten more times if given the option?

Because if so, we should all just go home now, if those neocon RNC talking points are going to be a part of the general election platform. Again.

It seems like a bad idea to me for anyone to hold up liberal concern trolling from Salon as evidence of anything. Theyre just mad because their own party is in an ideological turmoil between a shrill lifelong criminal and a communist. If anything, they want Republicans to get caught up arguing in favor of the Bush Doctrine so their voters are reminded of the same things that helped them GOTV for Obama.

Very, very, very well said!

“Fight for your country.” `Hector’ Homer The Illiad
“Be true to your school.” The Beach Boys

Stephen Decatur, in 1812, returned from a victorious battle at sea and was feted in New York and Washington. He said, at a dinner party, “Our country! In her intercourse with foreign nations, may she always be in the right; but our country, right or wrong.”

It was 1872 before Sen. Schurz made his famous reply, “My country; and my country is the great American Republic. My country, right or wrong; if right, to be kept right; and if wrong, to be set right.”

No patriotic American criticizes her country in time of war. That war’s over.
You get three balls for a quarter. Care to try again?
Go Trump.

The big difference is Trump said it openly to our face. The Dixie Chicks said it in England, behind out back.

“...if those neocon RNC talking points are going to be a part of the general election platform. Again.”

Why do we need a Republican candidate at all if we are going to repeat DNC talking points in the general election? Trump screamed 10 year old democrat talking points during the debate in SC. There is no arguing otherwise.

Democrats have been saying it to our face for ten years. What exactly are you trying to differentiate Trump from?

That goes to show you that its not necessarily the message...its the MESSANGER! And besides, most people including me, were still pro-bush back then. Not so much anymore.

[ Being a Trump chump means disconnecting your brain from anything that proves Trump is a liberal. ]

Is being a "trump chump" anything like "chimps for trump"?

I agree, liberals have been saying it to our faces for years. Liberals are entitled to their position, including those among them like Trump and the Dixie Chicks. And we who disagree can refute them.

The Dixie Chicks went to England and said stuff they would never saw when they were in Texas. That was galling about them. They didn't want to say it in Texas, and be honest, because they knew they'd lose money.

While I disagree with Trump, he said it at a Republican debate. How much more of a hostile audience could it be?

Now if some people here don't like it when Code Pink say it, but dismiss it when Trump says it, well, what can you do... Some people are just self destructive in this world.

There is a YUUUGE difference between the Dixie Chicks fan base and the Donald Trump fan base. The Dixie Chicks had a conservative, patriotic and proud fan base. So they were offended when their idols turned on everything they love (Texas, America and Military). To make matters worse, they did it in another country.

But keep squealing, I am sure eventually you will find something to scream about voters might listen to.

Voters are generally stupid. They'll elect Hillary/Trump (same difference) the same as they elected Hussein.
