Inside Jeb Bush's $150 Million Failure
Politico ^

Posted on 02/20/2016 8:38:18 PM PST by TigerClaws

Jeb Bush, the Republican establishment’s last, best hope, began his 2016 campaign rationally enough, with a painstakingly collated operational blueprint his team called, with NFL swagger, “The Playbook.” On page after page kept safe in a binder, the playbook laid out a strategy for a race his advisors were certain would be played on Bush’s terms – an updated, if familiar version of previous Bush family campaigns where cash, organization and a Republican electorate ultimately committed to an electable center-right candidate would prevail. Story Continued Below

The playbook, hatched by Sally Bradshaw, Mike Murphy and a handful of other Bush confidants in dozens of meetings during the first half of 2015 and described to POLITICO by some of Bush’s closest and most influential supporters, appealed to the Bush family penchant for shock-and-awe strategy. The campaign would commence with six months of fundraising for the “Right to Rise” super PAC and enough muscle to push aside Mitt Romney. There would be a massive, broad-based organizational effort to plant roots in March states at a time when other campaigns were mired in Iowa and New Hampshire. The plan outlined Bush’s positive, future-focused message with an emphasis on his decade-old record of accomplishment as Florida governor.

“His arrogant boast he didn’t need the base to win the nomination proved his undoing.”

It wasn’t that boast, but it was that thought...hard to believe that they acted like the nominee would be picked in a smoke-filled room, and the Primaries were simply for show. But they CLEARLY believed that.

Great to see him gone...given his connections and money, he was always a threat as long as he stayed in.

BobL, you are entirely correct when you write...

They STILL don’t get it. His name actually didn’t hurt him, but his AMNESTY STANCE absolutely killed him.

It’s ASTOUNDING to think they STILL have not figured this out.

Jeb's inexplicable support of Common Core didn't help him, but his version of AMNESTY for illegal aliens simply demolished any chance he had of a successful campaign.

We, the BASE get it...they might never get it.

The consultants get paid whether the results are good or bad. They simply want to keep the sucker at the tables for as long as possible.

“positive, future-focused message with an emphasis on his decade-old record of accomplishment as Florida governor. “

I don’t know anyone who was out of the workforce for 10 years, went to an interview and was hired at their same rank and salary level as before.

“We, the BASE get it...they might never get it.”

Thanks and agree. If they don’t get it now, they never will.

I can understand them “getting Amnesty”, as in understanding the base - but then not being allowed to support us, due to the donors making demands.

...but it seems like they simply have NO CLUE as to why Bush was despised to the level he was.

They cannot be reformed, they need to be REMOVED. Trump has enough money to finance the Republican Party himself for a number of years, maybe that’s the best answer.

Many times the higher up campaign staffers are the real winners.

This was an interesting insight into the campaign. Trump definitely really hurt him, not that I believe he had a chance anyway. However, I think he would have done better without Trump hammering on him. The article makes it clear he had no answer for Trump, and that was obvious. Heck, he didn’t even have an answer for Rubio.

>> Hillary is going to get TRUMPED!<<

That would be my dearest wish but I distrust the American electorate, as they have voted for Obama TWICE!! Not ONCE, but TWICE. Can they be any more foolish?

Yes, John Ellis did try to copy his big boo’s 2000 primary strategy to the letter, but this not 2000 and there was much Clinton fatigue that year but not as much as there is for Obama in 2016. I think back then people gave GWB a pass for his father leading to Clinton but they can’t forgive his son for leading to Obama. Jeb’s constant pandering to illegals didn’t help, either.

"His closest aides failed to predict Trump and never changed course, guiding a flawed candidate into a corner he couldn't escape."

Why is it that his mother could spot her son being a loser in this contest before he ever ran, yet his consultants and aids could not? It was pretty obvious to me, also, even though I gave him the benefit of the doubt to prove me wrong.

What's going to happen to the money that is left over if there is any?
