In May, the History Channel will air its remake of Alex Haley's Roots: The Saga of An American Family.
Unsurprisingly, the advertising for the broadcast fails to mention that Roots is a fake, and a fake of the first order.
First of all, the book upon which the successful mini-series was based was actually authored by Murray Fisher, Alex Haley's editor from Playboy magazine.
Secondly, Roots wasn't just ghost-written: it was plagiarized: In 1978, Judge Robert Ward concluded that Haley had stolen the idea for Roots from Harry Courlander, the white man who authored The African. Courlander charged Haley with having "copied [from his book] language, thoughts, attitudes, incidents, situations, plot and character."
In spite of having initially denied it, Haley ultimately acknowledged that he lifted from The African verbatim at least 81 passages.

They both stack up quit well to the rest of the fakes in this drama.
Wow, thanks for posting this. I never knew that Alex Haley was Lena Dunham’s predecessor. It doesn’t matter if the narrative is true, only that it could be.

I would urge all white people to boycott this hate-filled propaganda piece for its duration. If the glitterati want to pander to the black racist crowd, let them see whether there is enough of a market there to support them. Why give comfort to our enemies?
Ahh the halcyon days of the Event Miniseries. You had to watch these things, if you weren’t you were a bad person (or if you were in my generation your parents were bad people). Truth be told though most of them sucked.
Uh...I actually kind of liked Roots, even if Haley did steal it from a white guy. If you made it now, though, it would be PC’d to death, and the focus would be entire on how horrible white people are rather than just on a black guy trying to find out his family history.
It will be interesting to see which role O.J. Simpson will play in this version.
“....all white people to boycott this hate-filled propaganda...” They won’t due to white guilt syndrome. Some will but others want to see the “truth” put out there.
I was in high school when this first aired, and our leftist teachers fell all over themselves praising it. They were the precursors to white guilt complex.
Many sucked.
However, the “Lonesome Dove” miniseries is still the best thing I’ve ever seen on television. Nothing else is even close.
No matter how good your imagination, it will exceed all of our expectations. Count on it.
I’d love to see a parody “remake” of this, staring white guys in blackface. LOL! It would be a hit.
Not just plagiarized, but outright fabrications, a complete work of fiction marketed as truth. It was the basis for the Black LIES Matter movement because lies sell better than truth to affies, progs, and leftists.
Still waiting for the remake of Blazing Saddles.
