My Husband Went to the Store and Never Came Home, Deserting His Two Kids

I saw my ex-husband in court last week. It was the first time I had seen him in longer than I could remember; the exact date lost in an 8-inch-thick legal file of court proceedings that is currently lying on my desk. In fact, I could count on one hand the number of times I have seen him since I started that file four years ago.
Up until just a few days ago, I literally could not find my ex-husband.
But before he disappeared four years ago, I was a married, stay-at-home mom of a 3-year-old daughter and 7-month-old son. Then overnight my world turned upside down when my husband said he was going to the store and simply never returned.
Not only was my marriage over, but he left me with two very young children in a position where I was unable to instantaneously support us.
Quitting his job and leaving his work vehicle (his only car) in the parking lot of his employer, he turned off his phone, moved out of town, and became untraceable. His actions were not just an exaggerated statement that he no longer wanted our marriage, but it was a heartbreaking declaration that he also no longer wanted our kids.
And Iâve heard it all; the judgments that people love to throw my way. âDidnât you see this coming,â and âwhat did you do to make him leave?â Or âthis is why you never should not have been a stay-at-home mom without your own career,â and my favorite, âyou had kids with him, you did this to yourself.â

I can see her being upset.
A friend of ours husband went on a walk, never came home. Left the wife and 6 year old boy.

Use rubbers and never marry.
Sounds like a couple of great ways to permanently avoid being a man.

I’ve considered it many times, but I love my kids too much.

Yep hubs has been on the CS treadmill for 11 years, 8 more to go. Really should be constructive emancipation by conduct as the ex-shrew has alienated all three.
CS is now “only” $20 more than the mortgage.

One of the hazards of being famous, I guess. Anyhow if you haven’t already, you should let your state political representatives know about the hole in the law. Not to have a fraud provision means there is serious sleeping going on at the switch.

I guess a silver lining for them, if he was such a jerk, the jerk might as well have disappeared.

I’ve known men that could hardly afford to live in their car because of alimony and child support and I’ve known women that won’t lift a finger to help her own plight. I was a single mom for years and didn’t receive the child support I was due and it was hard, so I understand, but I did work and finally made made enough money so that my kids were taken well care of. Not letting my ex off the hook, however now that he actually has money he helps them more than I can.

“He probably went gay.”
I’ve known men who did just that and everyone supported his decision. It’s the best way to abandon your family.
One of them is a pastor.

But again, it’s not clear who was a worse jerk because we only have her story.

Her husband left her for another woman. But she ended up in the workplace and now she works at the VP level of my company. She makes well into six figures and when it's her weekend to drop the kids off with the father, she feels good driving her BMW over to his crappy apartment and actually giving him some cash so that he can afford to do something decent with his kids.
Not going to defend the ex-husband, because maybe he is a POS, I don't know. But I am going to point out a couple of things:
1) material goods are NOT the key to, nor proof of, happiness. In fact, many if not most men can be happy with just some "crappy apartment" and minimal stuff.
2) Women often lie, especially about exes. When they were dating and early on in the marriage, I bet he was the most awesome guy in the world. Once he's out, he's now a POS that used to beat her or he was a coward or impotent or whatever nasty stuff she can invent. Does she really have to give him cash? Who knows. Maybe she does because he gives his entire paycheck to her for child support and alimony. Who knows.
3) She's now the VP of a company. Great. Is she VP because she is more competent than the other candidates? Or is she VP because she has a vagina? Who knows.
The one thing we can be sure of is that the old rules no longer apply. These days up is down and black is white. Good people get destroyed, often just for being good. Bad people get elevated, often for having dark skin or a vagina. The hard truth is, that in the USA in 2016, if you are a morally upstanding, Christian who believes in the Constitution, you ARE going to run afoul of the system at some point (and this applies doubly if you are white). If you are not running afoul of the system, it is probably because you are just keeping your head down and going with the flow to avoid trouble, in sheep-like fashion.

I tell every young man who will listen: Take your future into your own hands and put on a rubber. And never, ever marry. Wide path to hell, similar to homosexual behavior and contrary to a godly life.
