My Husband Went to the Store and Never Came Home, Deserting His Two Kids
Yahoo Parenting ^ | February 16th, 2016 | Eden Strong

I saw my ex-husband in court last week. It was the first time I had seen him in longer than I could remember; the exact date lost in an 8-inch-thick legal file of court proceedings that is currently lying on my desk. In fact, I could count on one hand the number of times I have seen him since I started that file four years ago.

Up until just a few days ago, I literally could not find my ex-husband.

But before he disappeared four years ago, I was a married, stay-at-home mom of a 3-year-old daughter and 7-month-old son. Then overnight my world turned upside down when my husband said he was going to the store and simply never returned.

Not only was my marriage over, but he left me with two very young children in a position where I was unable to instantaneously support us.

Quitting his job and leaving his work vehicle (his only car) in the parking lot of his employer, he turned off his phone, moved out of town, and became untraceable. His actions were not just an exaggerated statement that he no longer wanted our marriage, but it was a heartbreaking declaration that he also no longer wanted our kids.

And I’ve heard it all; the judgments that people love to throw my way. “Didn’t you see this coming,” and “what did you do to make him leave?” Or “this is why you never should not have been a stay-at-home mom without your own career,” and my favorite, “you had kids with him, you did this to yourself.”

Once you whip it out, no more damn excuses - and I mean for life!

Almost got tricked twice (and one was a incredible hottie).... no sympathy; if it’s your kid you either RAISE and support them or you are a scumbag, or at least an idiot for hooking up with one.

I’m nowhere nearly as religious as many people on FR, but some things are simply absolutes - you had the orgasm, you are on the hook until that kid is a self supporting mature person.

Maybe “death by marriage”?
Akin to Arkancide.

I think his statement goes to far, but the family law system and society is so out of whack in favor of women, that a man should proceed with the utmost caution in all dealings with women.

Well you make some very good point there. Sometimes the simple life beats the "good life" with all the attendant stresses that go with it.

I have a lot of family in Alabama. Most of them hold down simple jobs, drive a beat up pickup, and spend many of their evenings sitting on the front porch with glasses of sweet tea watching the sun going down and the fireflies coming out with crickets and frogs chirping all around. On one of my last trips down there, I was thinking that I could get used to that kind of living.

Isaiah 4:1

King James Bible

"And in that day seven women shall take hold of one man, saying, We will eat our own bread, and wear our own apparel: only let us be called by thy name, to take away our reproach."

Properly coursed in scripture, I'd trust the Holy Spirit for guidance

Why is it that the man is always the cow milked for cash? We never hear about a woman being chased down for child support.

It's called the Golden Uterus. Once she has your children...everything you own becomes hers. Everything you will ever earn for the next decade (at least) will be hers.

Bill Bradley made sure that no matter how high the child support payments get, you will pay. Even if your life circumstances take a negative turn, the payments remain the same. If you can't afford them any longer, you go to jail.

All she has to do is say you threatened her and have a restraining order taken out...even in absentia. The inevitable charges of child abuse come like clockwork.

The best approach in many cases is to do what this guy did. Go off the grid and underground for a while.

Yep. More people need to research Parental Alienation (where you’ll see a photo of hub’s ex-shrew)

Go to youtube and search on Dr. Childress and Parental Alienation. Or the book “Divorce Poison.”

I feel for the woman, however, the thing missing from this report is how she did manage to support herself and her children. Instead all I heard about was how she spent time and energy chasing him down. Not that I blame her, the father of the children is a worthless piece of garbage. I was curious just how she had managed the situation.

Not sure I would go the “never get married route.”

Be sure before you get married. And then work your ass off to keep it going. Not at work, but with your spouse.

Boys listen to Tom Leykis .... Do not get married ever .

Yeah, but I think it took Leykis about five times to realize that himself!

Oh, I experienced the “improved” law.

Used to be, if she writes your name down, and so many years pass (like 4), you are the father and can’t contest it, no matter what.

Now, you “just” have to be able to pay the legal and DNA bills to prove you are not the father. (And child support during the pendency of the case.)

All it takes to get the process started is the accusation.
No evidence needed.

To my knowledge, this is the same law in all 50 states, due to some sort of uniform law.

**I tell every young man who will listen: Take your future into your own hands and put on a rubber. And never, ever marry.**

Well, I suppose that if a guy doesn’t fear God, then that might be a attitude to take, FRiend.

I was fortunate to have parents that helped instill Godly principles in me, so that when I did go out on my own, I had at least a fighting chance to make good decisions. Then came their divorce, and I knew then that I had to be very selective about who I would give my all to.

And let me tell you, by the time I was 20, I was 6’2”, a very fit 185, tough (rode a bull in a rodeo once. Once was enough), handsome (my beautiful wife wouldn’t have given me a second look if that weren’t the case), and had a Mach 1, and later a Vette.

So, getting good looking dates was REAL easy. Taking advantage of most of them would have been almost as easy. I know for fact that I was dropped more than once for not going to the next level. It wasn’t for lack of hormones. I was regularly allowing myself to get steamed up with a girl, only to have to summon the will power to put on the brakes. It was REALLY tough sometimes.

I was settled in to my single life, and had set high qualifications for any girl I’d date. Then, at 23, I met my future wife in a bar (not exactly the place for high qualifications). Within a month, I’d have done anything she asked. I found her to be everything I could hope for.

Turned out that she had high qualifications to be met by her suitor: tall, handsome, tough yet sweet and sensitive, AND preferably a virgin. 38 years later I’m still glad that I met her standards. It didn’t take long after the wedding night to find out just how stupid the “ya first gotta know if she’s good in bed” advise was. When a man and woman are completely in love with each other, that worry is quickly eliminated.

I’ve seen so many of my former classmates, that felt playing around was very worthwhile, go through divorce, mainly because they weren’t careful enough to find the right one to begin with.

Loose sexual standards, and all the problems they bring, are probably the biggest causes of the downfall of our society.

Sister did the same thing as this article. Middle of the night packed and drove to CA. Then, was surprised when her husband put out an BOLO and APB with the FBI, and was found- was divorced and then doubly surprised she had to pay alimony for her abandoned young children and the single parent husband she abandoned. So works both ways.

I’m thinking there’s more to the story from the guy’s side. I can agree with you that maybe she said if you leave you’ll never see your kids again. So he thinks, what the heck.
