Windham, New Hampshire (CNN)The day after winning the Iowa caucuses, Ted Cruz issued an apology to Republican rival Ben Carson for falsely telling Iowa caucusgoers that the retired neurosurgeon planned to quit the race, calling it a "mistake."
Cruz said in a statement Tuesday that his campaign staff saw a CNN report that Carson was dropping out, although CNN had not characterized Carson's actions that way.
"Last night when our political team saw the CNN post saying that Dr. Carson was not carrying on to New Hampshire and South Carolina, our campaign updated grassroots leaders just as we would with any breaking news story," Cruz said in a statement first shared with CNN. "That's fair game. What the team then should have done was send around the follow-up statement from the Carson campaign clarifying that he was indeed staying in the race when that came out."

we can only hope ;)
Tricky Teddy knows his mistake was going to do worse for him than Carson. Desperation Apology not sincere. He will pull more similar Stunts. Watch.
CNN is mischaracterizing their own initial stories about Carson and failed to mention the tweets by their own media personalities which suggested that Carson was not continuing on to New Hampshire and South Carolina.
“Carson will go home to Florida following the Iowa caucuses instead of flying directly to early-voting states New Hampshire and South Carolina, regardless of what happens in the first-in-the-nation voting state, so he can “get a fresh set of clothes,” his campaign said Monday.”

Seriously? They retweeted an MSM story. Get over yourself.
Why would Cruz apologize for the “shaming letters”? I don’t think it was a great tactic, but it was public information. Was somebody’s feelings hurt by one?
More like typical lawyer and politician. In the words of Hillary Clinton, “What difference does it matter now anyway”. The Cruz campaign accomplished what they wanted and are now on to NH.
Cruz is still my second choice but what he did was not classy since it was not verified before they tweeted and affected Carson caucus attendees.
His apology statement was classier than what almost any other candidate would have done. He is basically a decent guy. Not sure I could be civil to anyone after the attacks I had taken for the last month, the lack of sleep and the pressure that I had to win or else.
“a mistake”? Yea right, Mr. Slick again! It worked though he got Ben’s 5%
This just in, Cruz quiting race moving back to Canada next week to be a Mountie.
“Team Cruz spent all day telling us this was a nothing burger. Why is Cruz apologizing for it now?”
Good question. There must be some very damning evidence considering he usually pulls a Bill Clinton, deny, deny, deny.
Someone handed out thousands of photos at the Iowa Caucus’ showing Trump 20 years ago with Hillary & Bill that said, “Buy 1, get 3”. Electioneering going on during this should be illegal as it is at voting booths!
That isn’t what happened
“Cruz Iowa staffer Spence Rogers sent precinct captains an email during the caucus hinting that Carson planned to leave the race, despite the fact that Carson’s campaign said he would continue.
“Breaking News. The press is reporting that Dr. Ben Carson is taking time off from the campaign trail after Iowa and making a big announcement next week,” the email, acquired by CNN, read. “Please inform any Carson caucus goers of this news and urge them to caucus for Ted Cruz.””
Senator crooze is a ass hack.
Learn to deal with reality. The Cruz campaign spread false, misinterpreted information intended to sway the vote of caucus goers, without bothering to double-check it, let alone have the common courtesy to verify the information with Carson.
You’re right. Cruz should just go on stage and commit public hari kari to prove his sincerity. Anything else is unacceptable, right?
Sorry but there’s an old saying, “Politics ain’t beanbag”. On a dirty politics scale this probably rates a one or two out of ten, especially for anyone old enough to have lived through a Lyndon Baines Johnson campaign. The so called rumors this morning about Rubio? That’s eight or nine territory and if a specific campaign is involved the candidate will owe a lot more than an apology. Problem for Rubio is any investigation into the source just gives the story more exposure. That’s how a poison pill works. Genuinely filthy tactic.
“Raises my opinion of Senator Cruz and his team.”
Lowers my opinion of Cruz and his team. It’s easy to say, “I’m sorry” once the damage has been done and can’t be fixed. All planned ahead of time.
So this is how a “Christian” with “character” campaigns?
I can hardly believe The Donald is quitting already!! Good luck in future endeavors Mr. Trump, you gave it a good shot.
