Windham, New Hampshire (CNN)The day after winning the Iowa caucuses, Ted Cruz issued an apology to Republican rival Ben Carson for falsely telling Iowa caucusgoers that the retired neurosurgeon planned to quit the race, calling it a "mistake."
Cruz said in a statement Tuesday that his campaign staff saw a CNN report that Carson was dropping out, although CNN had not characterized Carson's actions that way.
"Last night when our political team saw the CNN post saying that Dr. Carson was not carrying on to New Hampshire and South Carolina, our campaign updated grassroots leaders just as we would with any breaking news story," Cruz said in a statement first shared with CNN. "That's fair game. What the team then should have done was send around the follow-up statement from the Carson campaign clarifying that he was indeed staying in the race when that came out."

Bernie’s college sex essay?
No. No!
“Cruz seems to practice a Christian form of Taqiyya,”
True that.
“Something was not right with the caucus voting in IA.”
Definitely. I was chalking it up to purposeful tweaks of the Magic Microsoft Tallying App to manipulate the totals. Who knows, though? Something was fishy.
I found the Bern’s sex essay.
Just gross and wrong. I feel sorry for his wife.

His explanation is that his mother told him there had to be a positive affirmation of Canadian citizenship.
I’ve seen enough threads about Obama’s Indonesian citizenship to realize that the issue could be murky.
And a Constitutional lawyer is not necessarily the same thing as an immigration lawyer. There are people who claim to be experts who still don’t realize that Obama’s alleged (false) claim of a HI birth is critical to his citizenship because of his alleged mother’s age at the alleged date of birth (I say “alleged” because the HI registrar has confirmed that none of those alleged facts can be legally verified). So even people who claim to know don’t - partly because the laws governing who is a US citizen were different at different periods of time.
Your scenario is exactly the GOPe playbook. Rubio will be the guy.
Enjoy.
Thanks for the clarification.
To hear Cruz supporters tell it, it’s excellent to lie in a good legislative cause. [I.e.: saying you support the Gang of Eight bill when you don’t.] What doesn’t make sense is that they claim it’s acceptable to go on lying long after the bill was voted on and, and the outcome can no longer be affected.
But it certainly indicates his appeal to “progressives”
Slimy move but smart to tell caucus goers that Carson had dropped out. Probably picked up the 4 or 5 percent he needed to beat Trump. And then apologize when it does no good.
Maybe not technically Taqiyya which is Muslim-specific, but it’s the same mindset. Basically, the old “the end justifies the means”. BTW, not a “Christian” concept, either. Cruz has gone to the Dark Side in his immense greed for power, and clearly will do anything to achieve it.
A couple days ago, I’d have voted for him in the general election if he’s our candidate. Now... uh uh. He’s a disgrace. I stay home.
What they did was not wrong. Cruz is saying they should have done more - to add Carson’s denial once it came (which, as far as I can tell, was too late to have reached Cruz’s people in the caucuses on time anyway - but still, Cruz was saying it should have been done as soon as they knew what Carson had said, and that the CNN report was wrong). That is what Cruz apologized for - for not correcting CNN’s report to their people as soon as they knew Carson was denying it.
I was responding to a comment about Iowa picking the eventual winner in the general election.
Yes, if you just consider picking the eventual candidate, the record there is better.
My comment was directed at the apparent comparison of Christians to islamists.
The turn of the phrase could have been worded better;
"Cruz seems to practice his own form of Taqiya, ..." vs. dragging Christianity into it.
BS explanation. I had a nephew born in Canada a few years ago and I and his two American citizen parents knew he had birthright citizenship in Canada. It’s not as if Canada is on the other side of the world and unknown to US citizens.
And, how did Ted suddenly find out that he did have Canadian citizenship shortly before he planned a run for the presidency?
Cruz the cultural ignoranous from Canada. A foreigner try to run this country with Goldman’s permission and money.
See my post 235 for further clarification.
Anymore, I’m not sure what to believe, from any camp or “news” organization. I am watching actions and reading words from the actuals though.
And FWIW, regardless of who’s left standing at the end of this cage match, I’ll be voting.
The counties where Carson’s departure was announced are the counties that RUBIO won. And that, I think, may be why CNN gave this false report. At the time that CNN came out with the false report, Rubio’s people started saying they were going to do better than anybody expected. Last night a lot of people were wondering why Rubio was doing so well. Well, it seems that Rubio’s people got cocky when CNN gave that false report. I would expect most of Carson’s supporters to move to Cruz if Carson left the race but it seems like they went to Rubio - possibly because they were made at Cruz’s people saying Carson was dropping out. I suspect that this was set up by CNN, Rubio, and the GOPe, which has guaranteed that there would be a brokered convention, which would only happen if Rubio rises and both Cruz and Trump fall. CNN’s false reports further all those goals.
