BS explanation. I had a nephew born in Canada a few years ago and I and his two American citizen parents knew he had birthright citizenship in Canada. It’s not as if Canada is on the other side of the world and unknown to US citizens.

And, how did Ted suddenly find out that he did have Canadian citizenship shortly before he planned a run for the presidency?

Born in CAnada a few years ago puts him under a different citizenship statute than Cruz, who is in a different citizenship statute than Obama was.

There’s a government website that you can use to see if you’re a US citizen. It’s a maze because it depends on the time and place of birth, the marital status of the mother, the years the mother lived in the US after the age of 14, etc. Citizenship law is a maze. But not when you’re talking about a 2-year-old, because the citizenship laws haven’t been changed in the last 2 years.

I would imagine Cruz realized he was a dual citizen when he checked out his eligibility, but I don’t know. Why don’t you ask him?
