National Review, conservative thinkers stand against Trump

National Review, the conservative magazine founded by William F. Buckley, will publish a special issue on Friday opposing Donald Trump's bid for the presidency, according to a source with knowledge of the issue's contents.

The issue will feature a blistering editorial that labels Trump a threat to conservatism, as well as essays by 22 prominent conservative thinkers from various ideological factions, in opposition to Trump's candidacy, the source said.

"Donald Trump is a menace to American conservatism who would take the work of generations and trample it underfoot on behalf of a populism as heedless and crude as The Donald himself," the editorial states.

The issue, first reported by Jonathan Martin of The New York Times, comes as conservative pundits and GOP leaders debate which of the two leading Republican candidates -- Trump and Texas Sen. Ted Cruz -- poses the greater threat to the party.

Rich Lowry, the editor of National Review, spent weeks reaching out to fellow conservatives, ranging from The Weekly Standard's William Kristol to RedState's Erick Erickson, to commission essays for the issue.

William Kristol is one of them.

That’s a huge relief... means Donald threw the pukeneos off Trump’s jet plane to the WH.

National Review did the SAME IDENTICAL THING to the real conservative, NEWT GINGRICH in 2012, and gave us ROMNEY.

A number of those speaking out against Trump are not conservatives. Glenn Beck is mental case obsessed with importing illegal aliens and is okay to the danger they posed to this country. And Bill Kristol has never been a conservative.

Changing from Dem to Republican once is hardly the same as flip flopping five times though.

the seething frothing hatred running through your veins

Lol I don't hate Trump, if that is what you are thinking. I just distrust him because while he has talked big talk so far he hasn't actually done anything to prove himself yet. I'm still waiting for evidence.

Ronald Reagan I will always admire, for many great achievements. But he was never a mega businessman. Comparing Reagan and Trump’s background events comparing apples and oranges.

I just “stole” this from a dear Facebook friend that I would like see been distributed around and see what we are up against from our OWN party!!!

Maybe the Full MOON is the reason???

POP QUIZ! What do the following have in common?

Glenn Beck, David Boaz, L. Brent Bozell, III, Mona Charen, Ben Domenech, Erick Erickson, Steven F. Hayward, Mark Helprin, William Kristol, Yuval Levin, Dana Loesch, Andrew C. McCarthy, David McIntosh, Michael Medved, Edwin Meese III, Russell Moore, Michael B. Mukasey, Katie Pavlich, John Podhoretz, R.R. Reno, Thomas Sowell, Cal Thomas.

If you answered any of the following, you answered correctly:

1) None of these self-appointed elitists have written screeds en masse against Obama the way they have against Trump.

2) These panicked self-identified conservatives are not conservatives at all. They are “go along to get along” Democrats lite.

3) They are lightweight conservative establishment media types, neo-cons.

4) NRO never produced such a bombastic condemnation against Barack Obama or Hillary Clinton.

5) By their actions, they have revealed their true orientation, and fatally compromised NRO. Or to put it more colloquially, NRO just shot themselves in the foot.

6) Trump will have field day with this and make fools of them all.

7) All are now and will forever be seen as establishment mouthpieces for the “conservative” establishment media.

8) These 22 pundits at the National Review need to understand that they are no longer relevant. In fact, they hardly ever were relevant. They have an over-inflated sense of importance.

9) …and so we again hear from our conservative “thinking”
elite! Twenty two of America’s finest “totos” pulling back the curtain on the
Wizard for us.

10) Seems the 11th Commandment isn’t worth the napkin it was scribbled on.

FOR BONUS POINT!

Sowell and McCarthy are the ones who should have stayed clear of Lowry’s offer. They tarnished their reputations here.

Me tooooo, however how WRONG they really are treatorously!

Here’s more quote from same great Lady!!!

The post-meeting/dinner report in The New Yorker Magazine holds the following quotes told by the glowing participants of their time with President Obama:

Richard Lowry:“the only presidential candidate from either party about whom there is a palpable excitement”.

Charles Krauthammer: “Obama would be a president with the political intelligence of a Bill Clinton harnessed to the steely self-discipline of a Vladimir Putin”, who would “bestride the political stage as largely as did Reagan.”

Bill Kristol:“I look forward to Obama’s inauguration with a surprising degree of hope and good cheer.”

Larry Kudlow: “[Obama] loves to deal with both sides of the issue.” “He revels in the back and forth. And he wants to keep the dialogue going with conservatives.”

Indeed, it sounds like a joyful political love-fest amid the smitten beltway punditry in 2009.
