National Review, conservative thinkers stand against Trump
CNN ^ | 1/21/16 | Dylan Byers

National Review, the conservative magazine founded by William F. Buckley, will publish a special issue on Friday opposing Donald Trump's bid for the presidency, according to a source with knowledge of the issue's contents.

The issue will feature a blistering editorial that labels Trump a threat to conservatism, as well as essays by 22 prominent conservative thinkers from various ideological factions, in opposition to Trump's candidacy, the source said.

"Donald Trump is a menace to American conservatism who would take the work of generations and trample it underfoot on behalf of a populism as heedless and crude as The Donald himself," the editorial states.

The issue, first reported by Jonathan Martin of The New York Times, comes as conservative pundits and GOP leaders debate which of the two leading Republican candidates -- Trump and Texas Sen. Ted Cruz -- poses the greater threat to the party.

Rich Lowry, the editor of National Review, spent weeks reaching out to fellow conservatives, ranging from The Weekly Standard's William Kristol to RedState's Erick Erickson, to commission essays for the issue.

You're the only one keeping the thread going.

Give him a break. It takes time to issue that many apologies.

Ok, you give one actual reason for believing Trump:

>>At least Trump builds things and has met a payroll.

So have a whole lot of folks, many of whom haven’t supported liberals and liberal positions on abortion, constitution, etc. etc.

So, again, Is there anything that he hasn’t done a 180 on? Why do you believe the guy now?

LS, I’m not trying to insult. I’m asking a serious question about Trump’s credibility. He has been all over the lot in his positions on every issue imaginable - surely you would agree with that.

Why do you, or anyone else, believe what he says now?

That’s funny.

Really, my screen name means nothing but it’s too old to change.

I was on the computer when you had to pay by the minute. You probably don’t remember those days. Hardly anybody still alive does.

So, I was on the Sci Fi thread and, well, I had a dream in which my recently departed dear sister said she was living on the Planet Altura and they danced all the time.

So on that Sci Fi thread, I started using the name altura.

As far as I know, we are not edible. But you can try.

I just do. I think like many people who had reveations, he has started to piece together how his economic, immigration, tax, and defense policies are fitting. I could see it in the campaign. H per said himself that he started out on the economy, but met Jameel. I think the Paris attack had a profound effect on his gun ideas.

Hell, I was a rocker opening for Steppenwolf, quit and took a single summer school college class, and immediately everything fit together and in SIX WEEKS I'm discussing Viegelin and Strauss and the writings of Lincoln. So I think I see this in other people. If it can happen to me it can sure happen to Trump.

I don't get my news from the MSM. I only read FR for news.

Would you like to be on my Make America Great Again pinglist? It will drop a list of links into your ping page every day giving a very thorough coverage of most of the day's Trump-related topics in the form of a list of links. You can use it to scan the day's headlines; or you can click on any of them and pull up the thread. That way you can learn about the candidate and the discussions from informed supporters as well as detractors.

Here's today's midday Make America Great Again ping: Click here and view post 20.

I'm hungry for some altura. Isn't that some kind of tuna-fish?

Maybe you're thinking of tilapia. Or maybe even a salad: arugula. Personally, I prefer the Trumpeter fish, which comes in both the Striped Trumpeter and Bastard Trumpeter varieties! (I am not making this up.)

Just funnin' ya, altura. Remember,

I don’t understand why any conservative would vote for Trump. He is one of the phoniest people I’ve ever seen. Are people actually so stupid that they can’t tell when a huckster is telling them what they want to hear?

That 11705 will increase by 69 for the next issue.
That is the number of frequent pro-Cruz posters on FR :)
