Trump open to campaign finance reform
The Hill ^ | January 17, 2016 | Bradford Richardson

Posted on 01/18/2016 4:29:32 AM PST by Cincinatus' Wife

Pointing to the effects of "horrible" super-PACs, Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump on Sunday said America needs to come up with a solution to keep big money out of politics.

"Well, I think you need it, because I think PACs are a horrible thing," Trump said on CNN's "State of the Union" when asked if he would pursue campaign finance reform.

The billionaire businessman, who said he is self-financing his campaign, said the wall separating super-PACs and candidates running for public office is illusory.

"First of all, everyone's dealing with their PAC. You know, it's supposed to be like this secret thing. They're all dealing with it," he said.

Trump pointed to a pair of simultaneous rallies for Republican primary candidate Jeb Bush, one hosted by his campaign and the other by a pro-Bush super-PAC.

"Bush had an event where he had an event for his whatever and an event for his PAC, right? For his campaign. The ballrooms were right next to each other and the events were simultaneous," he said. "You tell me they're not dealing with each other?"

He said candidates become "psychologically" beholden to their big-money donors, which may influence them to disregard the public interest.

"Yes, yes, oh yeah. I mean, look, psychologically yes. That's the way it is," he said when asked if politicians are swayed by their benefactors.

"Somebody gives them money, not anything wrong, just psychologically when they go to that person, they're going to do it," he added. "They owe them. And by the way, they may therefore vote negatively toward the country."

"That's not going to happen with me."

zzzzzz

your idiotic childish borderline mentally handicapped opinion that “I’m a liar” because I made one mistake just defines you as a joke and a jack ass. If making a mistake makes on a liar, your damned nose stretches to china.

because I made one mistake

But you don't claim to have looked at a blog and then, when it's revealed you're lying, then stand up and say "It was a mistake!" No, it was a lie. A mistake is getting the answer to a maathematics problem wrong. Fabricating false information is a lie. And furthermore, you're a raving loony. You're basically a crazy woman who keys the car of her ex-boyfriend. You really are nuts, especially that stuff you sent me over private message (for no reason I can fathom).

Perhaps you too are better matched with Sanders and Occupy

IOW, you have nothing to say. Well Trump will if his investments in Dubai and Istanbul are threatened, even if his kids nominally own them.

Don’t you get it. The msm and the political class are asking questions to try and get Trump ruined. They are doing the same to Cruz.

I really don’t care how they respond because the msm and others will twist it up.

I am tired of the media thinking that they are the arbiters so u am ignoring them.

I have a thing about the Constitution in general and the First Amendment in particular. I do not accept excuses for argumentation in favor of political censorship. Because you or I - or Jim Robinson - has a constitutional right to spend as much of our own money on promoting our own ideas as we wanna. In whatever publishing venue we wanna.

There are people whose exercise of that right annoys me, but that’s life. And I know that I am not a nobleman or priest such that my annoyance should matter in law.

I have a particular love of our constitution as well

My statements go to the heart of what the fifth column is doing and the glee with which they do it.

I will defend anyone’s constitutional right to free speech. Because I chose to ignore lies and twisted efforts does not mean u am looking for goby intervention

No do not put words in my mouth a$$hat.

I was accurate. The kind of class hatred and envy your comment evokes is pathetic

No do not put words in my mouth a$$hat.

Oh I surely did not, as I said you had nothing to say.

See?

The kind of class hatred and envy your comment evokes is pathetic.

Saying that because a person is rich they can't be bought (as you did) despite the absolute fact they do have a lot to lose (as I pointed out) is just as false as saying that a person with nothing to lose has nothing to gain. It has nothing whatever to do with class envy; it's just reality. So, try and get a grip on reality. OK?

Well I get to come back after my timeout which lasted a day and a half longer than my sentence. Nothing seems to have changed. The Trumpsters are still forgiving Donald of more sins than a Medieval monk with a cart full of indulgences.

Hard to see how Superpacs are helping conservatives - of 15 candidates, 13 are TOTALLY CONTROLLED by them, 1 is questionable, and 1 is not.

Not a very good record. I agree with Trump, if they’re just going to enable Democrat priorities, SHUT THEM DOWN.

Take a good look at the names of those posting in favor of the cheap-labor-express and the Super-pacs and Citizens United. These are the establishment status quo people among us.

I’ve never been a fan of “campaign finance reform.” It sounds too much like putting government (or the press) in charge of who gets elected.

So you are ok with criminalizing the making of a documentary film critical of Hillary Clinton? That, after all, is what Citizens United was all about.

That, after all, is what Citizens United was all about.

Citizens united was apparently about giving a handful of hedge fund billionaires and banksters the ability to donate unlimited amounts of money to a puppet candidate. It's time to crush it.

No. Citizens United (the organization) made a documentary film critical of Hillary Clinton. The FEC tried to sanction it. That is what the case was about.

That’s a fair criticism, Impy.

Trump does not need to ‘run left’ to win this election and should stick to issues he knows about.

He's right again, unless you're a Bush supporter of course.

#1, that "check this box to donate $1" BS needs to come off the tax form -- if someone wants to donate to a candidate's campaign, they should be able to do so, and to NO LIMIT. The pay options through cards, toll-free lines, websites, and mobile phones are legion.

And more to the point, it's no one's business -- and certainly not the gubmint's -- to tell anyone how much they can or can't contribute, or to whom. McCain-Feingold merely strengthened PACs, and the Demwit fight against the Citizens United ruling is just an attack on their enemies -- IOW, the enemies of their single party state goal.
