Today on CNN's State of the Nation, Jake Tapper revisited an old question with Donald Trump. He asked him about his faith and specifically about if he had ever asked forgiveness. By my count this is the third time that Trump has been asked the question.
At he Family Leadership Summit in Ames, Iowa, back in June:
Trump, who told CNN earlier that he is both anti-abortion and anti-same-sex marriage, said people are surprised to learn about his Christian faith.
"People are so shocked when they find ... out I am Protestant. I am Presbyterian. And I go to church and I love God and I love my church," he said.
Moderator Frank Luntz asked Trump whether he has ever asked God for forgiveness for his actions.
"I am not sure I have. I just go on and try to do a better job from there. I don't think so," he said. "I think if I do something wrong, I think, I just try and make it right. I don't bring God into that picture. I don't."
Trump said that while he hasn't asked God for forgiveness, he does participate in Holy Communion.
"When I drink my little wine -- which is about the only wine I drink -- and have my little cracker, I guess that is a form of asking for forgiveness, and I do that as often as possible because I feel cleansed," he said. "I think in terms of 'let's go on and let's make it right.'"
As an aside, Trump has both supported partial birth abortion and just this weekend floated naming a pro-abort as his vice-presidential choice.
In an interview with Anderson Cooper in July:

With all the trouble between Hillary and Bernie, Trump should run a write in campaign on the Democrat New Hampshire election ballot!!!
That’s the kind of strategic move I would expect from him.
Sounds like Gen George S. Patton.
ping
So we should legalize them rather than deporting criminals and the ones who don’t leave will die eventually?
Sounds like Trump logic to me. It will be great having 11m people legally competing with Americans for jobs, but if Donald tells it will be great, we must believe him, right?
Sounds like you’re not familiar with Trump’s plan - I’ll help.
EVERYONE HAS TO LEAVE
Please read up a bit.
Trump keeps forgiveness in a lock box in that “special place” next to all those Bibles he’s collected.
Donald Trump on Church and Bible:
Thanks for sharing the “good news”, DUnold!
No, sounds like you are the one not up on the plan. You know the first half.
Apparently you are completely unaware once they leave, the Donald wants them ALL to come back on an expedited basis and be legal.
Amnesty anyone??
7/29/15 interview with Dana Bash CNN, Google it, but have tissues ready as you hear for yourself the great man outline his amnesty plan.
God doesn’t “love” honesty, any more than he “loves” integrity. He expects and encourages it, but it’s not one of those endearing attributes. Besides, God doesn’t count honesty as righteousness with those who deliver it outside of mercy. Honesty without grace is worthless.
I agree with you partly, but importantly. I do sigh at the misunderstanding of true Christians. They misuse God’s grace as an EXCUSE for sin. BUT, Trump said he has never asked forgiveness of anyone, not even God. He does not think he has ever done anything needing forgiveness. Is that not self-righteousness? Because it certainly isn’t the obedience of a forgiven sinner.
Well, Trump sure does not ever hide in the darkness.
Its not at all about Donald's or my "going out and making it right," it's not about taking communion, the sacrament, or whatever one chooses to call the remembrance of God's blood shed to our sins, to "wash away our sins," though that might indeed be what Donald Trump and millions of others think it is.
Its all about each of us praying to God admitting we are sinners, asking Him directly for His forgiveness, thanking Him for sending His Son to die on the cross for our sins (Donald's, mine and yours) and asking Him, through His Son, to live in our hearts. This prayer has nothing to do "our going out and making it right, but everything with God having "made things right with the death of His Son on our behalf!
I, too, used to be a Presbyterian and like Donald, I thought all I had to do was to try lo live a better life. Fortunately, someone helped me to understand, I could never do that no matter how hard I tried or how long I lived. God had already done it for me and all that was required was for me to admit my sins and ask Him to "make it right" for me!
Yes!
This video shows why the tens of millions of Trump supporters like him. Trump talks to people like heâs in their living room. Others lecture and talk *at* people in a patronizing way.

Wasn’t John Lennon who said he was bigger than Jesus?
Bribing is a crime. Where is any evidence Trump has bribed anyone?
I liked the comment that Don doesn’t care for the Bible because he’s Not In It!!
He Hath a Haughty Spirit ..He do
I am also one of the roughly 60 to 70% of Republican voters (depending on the poll) who do not currently support Trump. For Trump to win the nomination he is going to have to win over some of us. For Trump to then beat Hillary he is going to have to convince nearly all of us to actively and enthusiastically support his campaign.
I have an open mind on Trump. Moreover, if Trump is going to be the Republican nominee I desperately want to believe that he is a conservative. If we don't elect a conservative President next year then I don't see any way that our nation can come back.
Four Supreme Court Justices (one conservative, one moderate, and two far left wing liberals) will be over 80 years old next year. Two of the remaining five Justices are young far left-wing liberals appointed by Obama. If even three of the four octogenarian Justices are replaced with young liberals then a far left-wing oligarchy will be ruling the Court and every aspect of our lives for the next 30 years.
So all of you Trump supporters, don't attack us non-believers, convince us. I honestly have seen nothing of Trump's record before the current campaign to suggest that he is any more conservative than Michael Bloomberg (another New York billionaire who ran for office as a Republican). Why do you believe that Trump is a conservative and not just a very gifted salesman who knows how to tell his audience what they want to hear?
And also, his would be the 60th vote against Obamacare. I fell for that one, I have to admit.
God chooses our leaders for us, sometimes to show us what He thinks we deserve.
A nation that butchers 50 million of its babies and sells their body parts and now celebrates what God destroyed two large metropolitan cities for doing, deserves worse than Clinton or Obama.
Maybe even worse than Hillary!
Thanks for your input. That kind of thing is happening all along, we don’t get the facts until they are modified to the point that you could not recognize the true statement unless you actually heard it yourself.
