While Donald Trump cynically maintains that he has no clue what Ted Cruz's phrase "New York values" means -- and while he scurrilously implies that Cruz has some sort of malicious, nasty feeling about New Yorkers over 9/11 -- video has now emerged of a nationally televised 1999 interview in which Trump seems completely familiar with the "New York values" to which Cruz referred.
Trump appeared on Meet The Press on October 24, 1999, where he had several exchanges with Tim Russert:
RUSSERT: Do you think gays should be allowed to be married?
TRUMP: It's something I haven't given lots of thought to. I live in New York City, there is a tremendous movement on to have and allow gay marriage. It's just something that is too premature for me to comment on.
RUSSERT: How about gays serving in the military?
TRUMP: It would not disturb me. I mean, hey, I lived in New York City and Manhattan all my life, so my views are a little bit different than if I lived in Iowa, perhaps --
Then there was this exchange:
RUSSERT: Partial birth abortion. Eliminating of abortion in the third trimester. Big issue in Washington. Would President Trump ban partial birth abortion?
TRUMP: Well, look, I'm very pro-choice…and again, it may be a little bit of a New York background, because there is some different attitude in different parts of the country, and you know, I was raised in New York, and grew up and work and everything else in New York City.
RUSSERT: But you would not ban it.
TRUMP: No ... I am pro-choice in every respect as far as it goes, but I just hate it.
Here is Cruz's description of "New York values" from last night: "everyone understands that the values in New York City are socially liberal or pro-abortion or pro- gay-marriage, focus around money and the media."
Good for you, I mean that sincerely. I wish, no pray I could do that.
But then why do you even pay taxes?
You obviously did not look closely at the apology.
Why? Apologies come in different flavors and grades?
To stay out of prison. And avoid attention from Lois Lerner.
If you hear it or read it, you will understand why.
Obamacare scrapped?
Illegals deported?
Wall built?
Anchor babies outlawed?
National debt reduced?
Abortion restricted?
China trade deficit reduced?
Food stamp growth curbed?
Welfare growth reduced?
Fraud in Medicare & Social Security under control? (25% of Medicare payments go to fraudulent claims, and there are tens of thousands of people over age 110 still getting social security checks automatically)
If Trump can deliver any 3 of above, he is more than enough conservative for most rational people.
Trump is conservative on these issues:
Pro life since at least 2011, wanted to ban partial birth abortion as far back as 2000.
Pro Traditional marriage. ^Gay rights is not my thing.^
Pro capital punishment ^Capital punishment isn't uncivilized; murderers living is^
Hold Judges accountable
Opposes ^Common core is a disaster^ Teach citizenship, quit ^dumbing down^.
Anti education unions (2000)
For school choice
^Climate Change is a hoax^
^No Cap-and-Tax^
For drilling our own.
On Environment ^Good development enhances the environment^
Stressed the importance of a strong family & culture of life (2015)
Supports Israel
Opposes Iran deal and letting Iran obtain the bomb.
Wants to crush ISIS quickly.
Wants a military so strong no one will challenge us.
Against unbalanced trade deals that kill American jobs.
Against warrant-less government surveillance of citizens.
Is against having a high national debt. Warns that $24T is a point of no return.
Against gun control
For assault weapon ban but says the AR-15 shouldn't be considered an assault weapon.
Wants to repeal Obamacare and replace it with market driven polices and increased competition among insurance companies.
Wants to increase military spending.
Will close the border to illegals
Will send the criminals and sponges back.
Will deport all illegals but will let the hard working ones go through the legal process to come back.
Against Anchor babies
Knows unemployment is much higher than official stats.
Will bring jobs back through better trade negotiation.
Attended military academy and Wharton Business School.
Stood up for Birthers and challenged Obama on his fraud.
Believes USA is ^the greatest force for freedom the world has ever known^
Wants to honor commitments on Social Security and Medicare, which we can afford to do if he gets the economy going full steam.
Wants to reduce the fraud in disability and other programs.
Against marriage penalties in tax code.
Wants to simplify tax code with just 3 simple brackets.
Wants to reduce income taxes and reduce corporate tax.
Wants to rebuild our infrastructure.
Wants to apply welfare-to-work to 76 other welfare programs (2011)
Doesn't have time for political correctness.
Not afraid to call out either party or both when they are wrong.
Not a puppet to rich campaign donors. Go Trump 2016! Born in America of two US Citizen Parents! A true Natural Born Citizen!
The first two conservative credentials are totally bogus, specially attributing being pro-traditional marriage for merely saying “Gay rights is not my thing.” Puh-leease. Trumped up list (pun intended).
While completely ignoring the political dimension.
Rarely do facts, data and long, drawn out defense have an impact on a vote.
Rarer still if counter attacks change a vote.
I don't doubt the sincerity or righteousness of either party. All good, honest committed people.
But having a hard time catching up to the leading edge of the political meme.
What distresses me is that in order for Trump or Cruz to win the nomination, they have to utterly destroy the other. And once that occurs, those supporters will be lost to the winning coalition. And probably the election as a whole.
George W. Bush was a supposed "Evangelical" who was as "pro-life" as they come. So what? We didn't get a SINGLE PENNY deducted from the coffers of Planned Parenthood, as they butchered millions of children and sold their body parts. We didn't get ANY investigations of Big Abortion by Alberto Gonzales. NOTHING. All the "pro-life" rhetoric got us nothing.
So what DID Bush do? He tried and stab every American in the back with a massive amnesty for his Mexican and Chamber buddies. And he did disgrace every American by taking his shoes off in a Muslim Brotherhood mosque while the WTC still smouldered.
And we all supported GWB and fought for his re-election as if the world depended on it. I donated thousands to Bush and his idiot Rove.
I am DONE. If Trump does NOTHING ELSE but build a wall and stop the Muslim invasion, he belongs on Mount Rushmore.

It’s not that difficult. Team Cruz has been tweeting this 17 year old video all day. I wonder if Trump will tweet some videos of Cruz campaigning for Obama’s trade agenda A FEW MONTHS AGO.
Obama's trade agenda is the GOP trade agenda. Free trade has been a GOP plank for the last century. Trump's protectionist ideas are Democratic in origin, like the bulk of his political philosophy.

Sorry, unfair trade is not free trade. If you think Obama, Goldman Sachs and GE (who wrote the 5,000 page TPP) are looking out for us you probably belong to the wrong party.
But no worries. President Trump will sort it out. Cruz has learned the error of his ways enabling TPP and will make a fine Senator or Supreme Court justice.
Free trade is "unfair trade", whatever that means. The point is to subject every industrial sector to the stress of foreign competition, in order to ensure that they remain globally competitive or leave. Foreign countries levy tariffs on imports to protect or nurture their industries. But these scheme have very little effect on their global competitiveness. They are vast boondoggles. Japan protected its computer sector and failed miserably. It protected its telecom equipment sector and failed miserably. Most countries have some kind tariff or non-tariff scheme to protect domestic industries. Almost without exception, these schemes fail miserably. Brazil has protected just about everything it is possible to protect. The one area in which they have succeeded is commercial airplanes. In every other area, Brazilians pay 2 to 3 times what everyone else pays for normal everyday products. And Brazilians have 1/4 the US GDP per capita despite having a superior natural resource base.

Fine. President Trump can sort it out. It’s absolutely insane for a Republican Congress to enable America hating Obama on anything. ANYTHING. Sadly, Ted Cruz did just that.
Do I like what he's saying now about jobs, illegal immigration and banning Muslims? Absolutely.
Do I believe he'll stick with those positions once he's elected? Absolutely not.

It was back in 1999, before 9-11-01.
And it shows he was only pragmatic about liberalism back then, as most democrats still are.
9-11-01 cured Trump of the liberal-disease, and his political transformation was genuine. Rush, Ben Carson, and Hannity all know first-hand the year-by-year shifting of Trump’s politics.
Now I see why Trump invoked 9-11. That was the day when his transition to conservatism first began.
He’s not a seasoned conservative, but a fresh newcomer by our perspective. I went through the same transformation myself. He brings fresh passion to the national scene.
