Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu remembers well just how US President Barack Obama brushed aside Israeli objections and went ahead with the P5+1 nuclear agreement with Iran.
Now, Netanyahu is reportedly planning some personal payback.
According to the Kuwaiti newspaper Al-Jarida, Netanyahu will make common cause with moderate Arab governments in order to sabotage Obamaâs plan to succeed Ban Ki-moon when the South Korean diplomat ends his term as United Nations secretary-general on December 31 of this year.
Al-Jarida quoted sources as saying that Obama has already discussed the issue of running for secretary-general with Democrats, Republicans, and Jewish officials in the US.
The sources said that once Netanyahu got wind of Obamaâs plans, the prime minister began to make efforts to submarine what he has referred to as âthe Obama project.â
âWasnât eight years of having Obama in office enough?â Netanyahu is quoted in the Kuwaiti daily as telling associates. âEight years during which he ignored Israel? And now he wants to be in a position that is liable to cause us hardships in the international arena.

I thought the UN Charter prevented anyone from the US of becoming the General Secretary of the UN.
Good luck to prime minister Netanyahu in his efforts to crush our zer0 _resident squatter in the white hut.
Silly head, laws don’t apply to zer0.
Obama will run for the UN under Kenyan flag
“I thought the UN Charter prevented anyone from the US of becoming the General Secretary of the UN.”
It will be voted on and changed probably in October.
He pays no attention to the US Constitution, why should the UN Charter be any different?
I guarantee he will be General sec of Un.
Angela Merkel gets Person of the year.
Now this.
What’s next, Katelyn Jenner for Miss America?
Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi wins the Nobel Peace prize?
The world’s gone nuts.
Not charter, but tradition has kept the UN president being from one of the great powers. Not only the U.S. but China, Russia, France, and Great Britain.
I find it highly unlikely that Obama is plotting to be UN president. If he doesn't like dealing with Congress then he'd hate working with the general assembly.
One thing is for certain, Obama isn’t going away once he leaves the White House, he is going to continue his work to destroy the US.
Maybe Obama can do for the UN. what he did for the US.
Back in ‘96 or so, there was some noise and jubilation in the liberal ranks about the thought of having Bubba Clinton as UN general sec.
So it’s nothing new that liberal icons and imperators are floated for the position.
When Bozo’s term is over he can reveal the truth - and go laughing all the way to the bank.
Trump needs to get the UN the Hell Out of the USA!
You're right. The General Secretary cannot be a citizen of any of the Security Council's five permanent members. But as other have noted here, rules can be changed.
And if Obama does get the job, I expect to be applauded for my insight. Because I have predicted this for some time now.
From UNSGselection.org faq:
Traditionally, candidates from the Permanent Five members of the Security Council (China, France, Russia, the United Kingdom, and the United States), are not considered for the position of Secretary-General to avoid further concentration of power within the UN. As with regional rotation, this is a matter of precedent and convention, rather than a written rule.
My fantasy:
Obama becomes Secretary General of the UN and under President Cruz (or Trump), the United States leaves the UN, kicks it off our shores, and terminates all funding.
Meanwhile, the Clinton Foundation could be bribing world leaders all over the globe to vote in 0bama... in exchange for 0bama quashing any indictments that might be coming the way of Hillary.
It’s a natural career progression for him.
The next step after being King of America is to be King of the World.
In his view, the UN should dictate law and behavior for everyone in the world, much as he’s dictating our laws now. One person rule.
