Ted Cruz Calls for Oregon Armed Protesters to 'Stand Down'
NBC News ^ | 01/04/2016 | Vaughn Hillyard

Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz on Monday called for armed protesters who occupied a federal building in Oregon to "stand down peaceably."

"Every one of us has a constitutional right to protest, to speak our minds," Cruz told reporters in Iowa. "But we don‘t have a constitutional right to use force and violence and to threaten force and violence against others. So it is our hope that the protesters there will stand down peaceably, that there will not be a violent confrontation."

I support Ted, not Donald, but many are fed up with the dog and pony show of established politicians in general and Republican Party politicians in particular.

That’s part of the reason for Trump’s support, although I think there are others like his business experience outside of Washington, which dare I say appeals to ‘moderate’ voters.

I am concerned about Trump’s authenticity to be frank. If he turns out to be a fraud, what’s next????

I already am fully committed to not voting for 95 percent of the Republicans in this country and will vote against those RINO’s every time, even if Dems win.

I will support third party or write-in candidates to avoid voting for RINO’s in general elections.

If things continue to go down I will have to accept God’s in charge and humbly accept the situation and consider what I need to do beyond politics.

So Trump supports armed rebellion? bad tactic unless your home is being invaded, aka the Feds invade your land. Occupying a Fed Gov facility does nothing positive.

I do not believe we’ve exhausted our peaceful Constitutional options yet.

The Article V Convention, for one. We’ve got 31 of the statehouses - why can’t they do something?

Cruz is wrong. There comes a time when tyranny is so strong that only real uprising is justified. America is coming to a point where we are so lawed to death that the only recourse is by the gun. Hence revolution. It has happened before.

But we're not there yet, which is what Cruz is saying. He knows the purpose of the 2nd Amendment.

Revolution, bloody or not, is the only hope for this republic.

Then what are you doing here. Shouldn't you be up in Oregon?

If he turns out to be a fraud he’ll be just like all the others. What have we got to lose? It’s not like the rest of the frauds have done a swell job. I don’t see how it could get much worse.

"Other GOP candidates need to do this too."

Nonsense.

Any candidate that calls for a stand down without FIRST calling for legal reconsideration of the horrible injustice perpetrated against the Hammonds will never have my vote.

And, to boot, Rubio of all people is the only one who stated there's a problem with BLM ownership and management of 60% of Western land. And, that it needs to be turned back to the states.

Either Cruz spoke without knowing all the facts, or he's a weasel. Same with many of the other candidates who have been quoted.

"good for Cruz..."

But it would have been nice if he had said that the situation called for a review of the high handed tactics of federal agencies and proposing recourse for citizens against an aggressive bureaucracy.

"The main issue is if The Hammonds wanted the seige to occur and for the Bundy Brothers to be come to Oregon"

The Hammonds have been threatened with further prosecution for not paying the full $400,000 fine by the end of 2015. The fine was levied as part of original sentencing and it's a crime to not pay it on time. Another felony.

I'm pretty sure the Feds and the Hammonds are both happy to call it even (they've already paid $200,000) if the Hammonds don't publicly call for help.

"..I think you are reading a bit much into the word ' security.."

And I think you're sticking your head in the sand. Opinions vary. Still forming one on this particular situation.

That said, even my laughable little bit of time reading Federalist Papers and quotes from our founders produced an understanding concerning the intent of the Second Amendment. Semantics be damned.

April 2, 2015:

http://thehill.com/policy/energy-environment/237632-ted-cruz-aims-to-win-the-west

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) is making a play for the West in the 2016 race by touting his opposition to the federal government’s expansive land holdings.

Cruz’s disdain for federal land control is resonating with Westerners whose lives are impacted by land managers, and could help him win over conservatives in Nevada, one of the early nominating states in the presidential contest.

“This is an issue he’s been focused on for quite some time, and it’s one that plays extremely well with the conservative base in the western part of the United States,” said Ford O’Connell, a GOP strategist who advised the 2008 presidential campaign of Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.)

Nationwide, the government owns nearly 630 million acres, a landmass bigger than Alaska and California combined. Most of that land, managed by agencies like the Bureau of Land Management and Forest Service, is located in states west of the Mississippi River.

Federal control is particularly heavy in Nevada, where the government owns 81 percent of all land, the most of any state.

“This is something that has been a perennial issue in the West since it became part of the United States,” said James McCarthy, a geography professor at Clark University who studies the history of western land. “It’s a staple of western politics to complain about that.”.......

And to boot, the Feds chared them under the Federal anti-terrorism statute of 1996 for an accidental over burn that destroyed the very sparse vegetation on 139 acres of BLM land.

The BLM and F&W Service insisted the state penalties for this accidental burn were insufficient and warranted Federal terrorism charges.

I’ll admit this is a tough call. If the Bundys get the publicity and peaceably back down, this could be interpreted as a good publicity stunt.

However, the Bundys can’t act in a threatening manner; they need to do Gandhi like resistance. The leftist totalitarians are coming out of the woodworks and over-reacting which is good.

The Left has staged a lot more aggressive protests by far.

What part of my statement don’t you understand? It’s in plain English. Nothing complex about it. You are advocating the use of force and violence to carry out unlawful acts, simple. Where do you stop?

Yes, plain English and your conclusion has absolutely nothing to do with what I posted. Apparently, you are the one having a difficult time of understanding. You’re drawing conclusions on what is not there. I said nothing about using force or violence to carry out unlawful acts, specific or otherwise.
