Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz on Monday called for armed protesters who occupied a federal building in Oregon to "stand down peaceably."
"Every one of us has a constitutional right to protest, to speak our minds," Cruz told reporters in Iowa. "But we don‘t have a constitutional right to use force and violence and to threaten force and violence against others. So it is our hope that the protesters there will stand down peaceably, that there will not be a violent confrontation."

I doubt he ever had your vote.
No, and that’s my problem. Revolution is the ONLY RECOURSE available to us. I’ve voted for the past 40 years and nothing has improved, (hence my 10+ yo tagline). Revolution, bloody or not, is the only hope for this republic.
Yes, I was just making a generalized statement. This protest is not the spark for uprising.
The main issue is if The Hammonds wanted the seige to occur and for the Bundy Brothers to be come to Oregon. Many people claim they didn’t support them.
Yeah. This isn’t the place to stand, but there is one down the road. Cruz won’t be there though, and now we know.
I’m inclined to agree, but we cannot expect a candidate for president to say so.
You might want to do a little historical research on revolutions for the past 200 years...
Typically, they are not successful at all...only a handful were successful.
There are actual other resources for us...
Going Galt is one.
Simply stop complying with onerous laws...we already do in many cases..
I’m not so sure it is a smart move. As to this showboat effort by the Bundys, yeah. It reeks of stupidity, entrapment, or both and shouldn’t be touched by anyone with any discretion. But the comment Cruz makes is an absolute; it is not limited to this one event. He seems to wave aside the concept of the inherent right of defense of self and defense of others. I would be happy to know that such a message is not what he meant.
I support Ted Cruz for president, but we have seen a discussion spring up about the Hammond’s situation and the situation of Western land owners in general in the face of federal government rules, regulation, encroachment etc.
This would not have happened without the Bundy’s and other folks out there taking the action they did in the first place.
Ted is right to not want any violence or confrontation.
In my heart I don’t want that to happen either.
But I don’t necessarily agree with his quickness in calling for a ‘stand down’.
Ted’s entitled to his opinion and I think his heart is in a good place on wanting to avoid any violence.
Had Donald Trump had anything to say?????
He’s just another Trumpeter cross over voter.
I saw that statement as being against both First and Second Amendments, myself. It will not serve to be a politician in a time when statesmen are needed.
“Kindly point me to the clause in the Constitution where force and violence against others is sanctioned since Cruz is wrong...”
The concept is inherent within the Second Amendment.
[I]t is proper to take alarm at the first experiment on our liberties. We hold this prudent jealousy to be the first duty of citizens, and one of (the) noblest characteristics of the late Revolution. The freemen of America did not wait till usurped power had strengthened itself by exercise, and entangled the question in precedents. They saw all the consequences in the principle, and they avoided the consequences by denying the principle. We revere this lesson too much, soon to forget it.
James Madison
Most have ‘forgotten’. This ‘stand’ IMO is too little, too late. Besides, there’s natural gas and uranium under that ranch for the taking.......by the force of law and economic ‘violence’ if necessary.
I don’t know exactly what the answer is, but the politicians are not changing anything meaningfully for the better in this country.
The Paul Ryan Republicans (236 House GOP members who voted for him) are allowing the debt load of this country to go up, up, up over 20 trillion.
After this election cycle, I’m certain they will have to raise taxes and cut programs at the same time making both Right and Left in this country mad.
All the issues they raise are phony emotional sideshows to get themselves re-elected.
Sorry Ted, 400 Oregon ranchers will lose their lands by August 16 if the Feds are not stopped. The GOP has run out of time to act. Once their land is taken it is gone.
“I support Cruz. I hope there guys get prison for what they’re doing. Same cut of cloth as black lives matter.”
That’s the spirit!
Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen.
This is an example of why you see so many “Go Trump!” messages on FR.
The concept is inherent within the Second Amendment.
"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."
I think you are reading a bit much into the word ' security '
I certainly understand your point, and I sympathize with my brothers in arms, but Ted Cruz is a Constitutional scholar. He knows what he’s talking about and I think he’s trying to give these guys a heads-up that this isn’t the hill to fight over.
Not at all. And the concept is found in natural law.
Cruz is dead wrong if his comment is intended as an absolute.
