Some voters embarrassed to admit supporting Trump

The biggest political news is that Donald Trump may be doing even better than polls have suggested. Yikes.

Apparently, many Trump supporters have been fibbing to pollsters, saying they’re for someone else when they really intend to vote for The Donald. And those fudging the most are college-educated voters because, it seems, they’re too embarrassed to admit their preference. As well they should be. I’m kidding. Sort of.

Imagine it this way: Guy on the phone asks whom you prefer for president. You can say, I really like the bragging, eye-rolling, profane, nativist, misogynist, policy-free billionaire-birther “jerk” (Jeb Bush’s word). Or, you can select a more-sensible candidate — and keep your Trump crush to yourself.

Thanks to this treasonous gap — OK, this interesting anomaly — these recent findings by the polling group Morning Consult could shake things up a bit. Notably, Trump’s predicted ceiling of 35 percent to 40 percent, the figure many prognosticators have used to argue against Trump’s becoming the Republican nominee, may be much higher — and his nomination, therefore, more likely.

Meaning Trump’s support is actually even higher than it seems from the polls. Bad news for the wicked witch.

Trump has already enjoyed a preference cascade of people realizing its ok to have a flamboyant loud mouth be President.

Not so fast, there, Andy.

As a matter of fact, it's not "OK" to have a flamboyant, loud mouth and be President.

And, should Trump become President, he'll have to control his penchant for shooting off his mouth.

Presidential utterances are taken as meaningful in the foreign policy realm -- as Zero has discovered to his embarrassment. Remember his "red line" -- ill-considered as it was?

Teddy Roosevelt sai it best: "Speak softly...but carry a big stick".

Some voters embarrassed to admit supporting Trump.

Some voters should be embarrassed for supporting Hillary.

Ooh...burn....you really told me! Now how about factually disputing what I said. Or be like every other trump supporter and attack the messenger again because you can’t.

Then why is Ted Cruz pushing for the cheap labor express?
That is exactly what all the rich donors of republicans and democrats want.

There will also be a lot of Republicans who say now that they would never vote for Trump, but change their mind when faced with the prospect of a President Rodham Clinton.

This is definitely true. While visiting with some extended family over the weekend and the topic came up, I could tell that most of them feared the "loose cannon" aspect of Trump, but really liked his backbone, his plain-spoken nature and his patriotism. They were just expecting someone else to be leading in the polls (as were we all) and are having some difficulty wrapping their minds around this turn of events. When I answered their concerns over Trump's performance with "Well, we KNOW what to expect of Hillary", they all nodded grimly. Voting for her was not an option for them, which relieved me greatly.

Funny thing - the women were the most outspoken in their dislike for Clinton. When the ladies got to commenting thus, the menfolk just silently exchanged significant glances.

If we’re only gonna listen to what trump has said in the last 6months (the only time he’s said anything conservative) try to hold Cruz to the same standard, okay?

When “allies” talk about Trump supporters as “brainless” and such, it’s been difficult to tell any of them straight up that I have signed onto the Trump campaign.

See we can both play this ridiculous game?

I have not yet selected a candidate, but I do find it odd that a Trump supporter would be so bold as to call into question positions that another candidate may have once had but now denounces.

No, it’s not ridiculous. To call Trump a liberal because he donated to Democrats, without providing the proper context is ridiculous. He was a businessman. The reasons a person might do or say something differ vastly between someone inside of politics and someone outside of it.

Maybe we don’t tell pollsters our private opinions due to the total contempt we have for pollsters and main stream media. Without the name ‘Trump’ in the headline, no one would read the article. See the last paragraph in the article to learn the low opinion Kathleen Parker really holds of Trump supporters: ‘white guys’ who are Trump’s ‘minions’.

And by the way, it is possible for people to genuinely evolve on the issues. Are you arguing that Cruz has genuinely evolved on the immigration issue, or are you denying his previous positions on immigration?

Then you agree that trump IS the crony in crony capitalist. Feel free to check the wiki page for a definition if you’re unsure

Sure Trump's personality is flamboyant and loud, but his background is professional deal making and negotiation. Obama by contrast came to us with as a professional social agitator and complainer.

As far as "shooting off one's mouth" goes, I kind of like the way Ronald Reagan "shot off his mouth" against his advisers by saying "Mr Gorbachov, tear down this wall." Some times tough talk is the only sane reasonable thing to do. And flamboyant or not, Trump is not the fool Obama or Jimmy Carter is.
