Ted Cruz Questions Donald Trump's 'Judgment' to Be President (Uh oh)
NY Times ^ | Maggie Haberman and Matt Flegenheimer

Posted on 12/10/2015 7:49:24 AM PST by RoosterRedux

Senator Ted Cruz raised questions on Wednesday at a private fund-raiser about whether Donald J. Trump, his bombastic rival for the Republican presidential nomination, has the "judgment" to be president and mused about "strength," according to two people who attended the event in Manhattan

The remarks from Mr. Cruz came as he has studiously avoided public criticism of Mr. Trump, who is handily beating the rest of the Republican field in opinion polls.

Mr. Cruz has positioned himself to be the beneficiary of any erosion of support for Mr. Trump. While he has said he doesn't agree with Mr. Trump's proposal for a ban on Muslim immigrants entering the United States, he has taken pains to praise Mr. Trump for making immigration a focal point of his candidacy.

But inside a conference room in a Madison Avenue office, with about 70 people pressed around a table, Mr. Cruz gave a candid assessment of the race, lumping Mr. Trump with another candidate whose supporters the Texas senator hopes to poach, Ben Carson, according to two people present for the remarks.

Progressives are desperate.
The smell of their fear is like perfume to me.
This is turning out to be the funnest election cycle since 1980.

I hope this isn’t true but, if it is, Cruz just made a huge mistake.

"[Trump is the Republican Biden!] That is the stupidest thing I've ever read. I've seen immature comments by liberals on Trump that made more sense."

That actually is a good comparison - Biden speaks without thinking through what he is about to say and neither does Trump. The comment was not abut their politics, but about their speaking habits.

Agreed. Now is not the time for Trnmp and Cruz to go after one another. Better to remain above the fray and accumulate delegates so we get a non-GOPe candidate.

“Cruz is a politician who smells blood.”

If true, he will be shedding twenty times more blood than Turmp, and guess who will be feeding off his political carcass?

Trump is the Ghengis Khan of street-fighting politics. He thrives off of conflict.

Yes we do need a leader willing to speak the truth on who our enemies are.

Churchill was considered too outspoken too. He was proven right about the Nazis and communists. The biggest threat today is Islam and what leader has the balls to even mention it?

It appears, my FRiend, you are incapable of understanding the facts and quotes that come from Trump. You must believe the half-truths and edited Trump quotes that come from the MSM. And as far as that asinine comparison of Trump to Biden, I know Biden, and Trump is no Biden.

“I think Ted senses (like everyone else did before him) that it’s slipping away. We’re now 50 days out, and in most polls he’s 20 points behind. In normal politics, that’s just insurmountable.”

I figured as we got closer and Trump still had the lead, Cruz would either start attacking Trump or accept defeat gracefully. Now we know which.

I like some of the things that Trump says, but I can’t get past how he said his favorite president was Bill Clinton. Am I taking that out of context?? Or did he really mean it?
__________________________________________________________

Who knows what Trump means? He has praised Hillary Clinton, Obama and the Democrats as well. He has flipped on every issue a million times. There is absolutely nothing conservative about Trump. He is a populist and says things that boost his ratings. And he is, to use a Trumpism, “Just Terrific” at it.

He is absolutely brilliant when it comes to campaigning, no doubt. Possibly the best politician in our lifetimes and he isn’t even a politician.

Don’t get me wrong, he has highlighted issues that would have never seen the light of day if he were not running, and I applaud him for it, but no one has any idea of where he really stands on anything.

I'm a Trumpeter of the non-frothing sect. I also support Cruz.

The remaining candidates can drop out for all I care.

“You are sadly mistaken if you think Cruz’ “base” is “completely against” Trump. The great bulk of Cruz supporters on FR think a Cruz/Trump or a Trump/Cruz ticket would be ideal.”

They must be a silent majority then. Because there are plenty that do nothing more than attack and insult not just Trump, but his supporters.

Trump is incapable of admitting he’s wrong, has only an intermittent connection between his brain and his mouth, and does not take criticism at all. We’ve had 7 years of a person like that in the White House and see where it’s gotten us.

Biden destroyed Ryan in the VP debate. Don’t underestimate Biden as a politician. He may be the Dems choice if Hillary is indicted or at the very least, the FBI recommends to DOJ that she be charged. The chances of that happening may be remote, but the possibility does exist. The integrity of the FBI is at stake. I have no doubt that DOJ is partisan and will not pursue the FBI findings.

according to one attendee, who requested anonymity to describe what happened at a private event......

But he added, according to a second attendee, (anonymous)

ahh..... the anonymous strikes again..... this has about as much credibility as Obama’s Podium

Then even better a person asked a question......

After Mr. Cruz spoke, one person at the fund-raiser questioned Mr. Trump’s having “his finger on the Supreme Court button,” according to the attendees, a reference to Mr. Trump’s prospective nominees for the nation’s highest court. It is not clear if or how Mr. Cruz responded.

And this is meant to be misquoted to say that CRUZ said this as well.....

Nice hit piece by the new your times....

Jane,

I hope you are not holding the nastiness of Cruz supporters her on FR against Cruz himself. I’m 100% behind Trump, and I don’t think I’ll ever be able to fully forgive Cruz for his TPA support and vote. But Cruz is still without a doubt the second best candidate in the race. We could do a lot worse.
