Jerusalem: Incredible archaeological find brings Bible to life [Psalms 85]

Archaeologists digging just south of Jerusalem's Temple Mount have made a historic discovery, unearthing the first-ever seal impression of an Israelite or Judean king ever exposed in situ in a scientific archaeological excavation. The discovery, made by the Hebrew University of Jerusalem’s Institute of Archaeology under the direction of Dr. Eilat Mazar during Ophel excavations at the foot of the southern wall of the Temple Mount, is an impression of the royal seal of the Biblical King Hezekiah, who reigned between 727–698 BCE. Measuring 9.7 X 8.6 mm, the oval impression was imprinted on a 3 mm thick soft bulla (piece of inscribed clay) measuring 13 X 12 mm. Around the impression is the depression left by the frame of the ring in which the seal was set.

The impression bears an insc‎ription in ancient Hebrew sc‎ript reading: "לחזקיהו [בן] אחז מלך יהדה"//"Belonging to Hezekiah [son of] Ahaz king of Judah." The sc‎ript is accompanied by a two-winged sun, with wings turned downward, flanked by two ankh symbols symbolizing life. Experts identified several other subtle details about the artifact, surmising that it was originally used to seal a document written on a papyrus scroll which was then rolled and tied with thin cords, leaving their mark on the reverse of the bulla. The bulla was discovered in a refuse dump dated to the time of King Hezekiah or shortly after, and originated in the Royal Building that stood next to it and appears to have been used to store foodstuffs. The building, one of a series of structures that also included a gatehouse and towers, was constructed in the second half of the 10th century BCE (the time of King Solomon)...

Regardless of what the world powers say about Jewish ownership and history of the promised land, three things are certain:

1. Archaeology does not lie when the truth is excavated each day (Psalm 85:11).

2. The God of Israel has looked down from heaven and realized His promise to bring the Jews (Israel) back from the four corners of the globe to their land (Psalms 85:1).

3. The righteous one, the Messiah of Israel, is coming back to judge the quick and the dead. The one who paid the wages of Israel's, and everyone's, sins (Isaiah 52, Danial 9, Zech 12) of those who believe (Psalm 85:13).

Psalms 85:1 LORD, thou hast been favourable unto thy land: thou hast brought back the captivity * of Jacob. 2 Thou hast forgiven the iniquity of thy people, thou hast covered all their sin. Selah. 3 Thou hast taken away all thy wrath: thou hast turned thyself from the fierceness of thine anger. 4 Turn us, O God of our salvation, and cause thine anger toward us to cease . 5 Wilt thou be angry with us for ever? wilt thou draw out thine anger to all generations? 6 Wilt thou not revive us again: that thy people may rejoice in thee? 7 Shew us thy mercy, O LORD, and grant us thy salvation. 8 I will hear what God the LORD will speak: for he will speak peace unto his people, and to his saints: but let them not turn again to folly. 9 Surely his salvation is nigh them that fear him; that glory may dwell in our land. 10 Mercy and truth are met together; righteousness and peace have kissed each other. 11 Truth shall spring out of the earth; and righteousness shall look down from heaven. 12 Yea, the LORD shall give that which is good; and our land shall yield her increase. 13 Righteousness shall go before him; and shall set us in the way of his steps.

Why would the Bible be largely fiction or spin?

As long as certain persons continue to use ‘BCE’ and ‘CE’, their efforts amount to nothing more than a biased coverup of history as they shoot themselves in the foot of credibility.

If they don’t like acknowledging the existence of Christ in the Roman calendar, they can use the Jewish Calendar and reference years in BC or AD in parentheses.

And no it is not ‘accepted practice’ to use BCE/CE. It is a recent deliberate affront on history and the truth, no different than their comrades stateside being ‘offended’ by the Mt. Soledad Cross or any number of other similar ‘offensive’ symbols and references to genuine history.

Exactly. You have to ask them “what before/after the current era means”

Our ex-pastor began using those terms. Thatalong with other issues prompted us to change churches.

Israeli comrades in America (I assume you mean Jews in general, and are equating all of them to liberals) are not the only Jews who use BCE/CE. Ultra-right-wing political/religious Americans use it to— and are not offended by the Mt Soledad Cross (though that probably does offend liberals of any stripe.) So don’t read the news about a Jewish king of Israel if he is references in a non-Christ dating system. So... for you... it happened 3,076 years from the date G-d created the heavens and the earth...which was 5776 years ago. Cool?

BCE/CE is accepted practice and widespread; in countries that are not predominantly Christian it is used nearly 100% of the time. IOW, no, you’re dead wrong.

“BCE/CE is accepted practice and widespread; in countries that are not predominantly Christian”

I understand the desire of those who don’t believe in Christ not to have to “affirm” him by using AD and BC; but, totally unrelated to that, there is currently a cultural attempt to repress Christian expression in the public square.

Therefore, the use of BCE and CE, at this particular time, is going to be misunderstood, and will be considered part of the same anti-Christian bias.

Hopefully all sides will show a bit of mutual understanding (and just as some don’t want to use BC and AD, others will, especially at this time, want to specifically emphasize those terms).

Yes, the earlier poster did indeed misunderstand its use and practice, and betrays overt hostility toward something that isn't being used as part of anyone's agenda here on FR. A Google search will turn up at least hundreds, and probably thousands of such hostile comments in threads just like this one.

As I see it, the use of “BCE” and “CE” is Christophobic, yet it seems to be spreading. The other day, I found those abbreviations in a children’s book.

Believe in Christ or not, He is going to bust the sky wide
open at the appointed time along with thousands and thousands of His Holy angels on horseback in the clouds of
glory. Ready or not! Suddenly, all things will change.

Any time anyone says BCE or CE you say, “You mean Before the Christian Era or Christian Era?”

This will all soon be moot. The day after the election Obama will issue an executive order requiring everyone to use A.H. (Anno Hegirae) dating and the Muslim calendar.
