As France and the rest of the world comes to grips with Friday night's horrific terrorist attacks in and around Paris that claimed at least 129 lives, Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump is blaming tough gun control laws in France for the dimensions of the tragedy.
At a rally in southeast Texas Saturday afternoon, Trump told the crowd "nobody had guns but the bad guys."
"You can say what you want, but if they had guns -- if our people had guns, if they were allowed to carry -- it would have been a much, much different situation," Trump said, according to a Washington Post report. "I hear it all the time, you know. You look at certain cities that have the highest violence, the highest problem with guns and shootings and killings -- Chicago is an example, toughest gun laws in the United States, nothing but problems."
By making that comment the Washington Post observed, Trump doubled down on a message he tweeted in January, following a smaller-scale terrorist attack: "Isn't it interesting that the tragedy in Paris took place in one of the toughest gun control countries in the world?"
As that dated tweet recirculated on Friday evening, the French ambassador to the United States, Gerard Araud, tweeted at Trump: "This message is repugnant in its lack of any human decency. Vulture."

It is the gun laws.
It represents a mindset that citizens are not capable of protecting themselves.
This is left to their government, which failed immensely.
If the government cannot fight a suburban war against muslim fanatics, and their populace is unarmed, they lose.
Not only your ignorance but your outright stupidity is showing. You know nothing about the French people. In the First Gulf War (in which my son took part as an ANGLICO Marine) the French tanks made the “Big Sweep” which was the key to trapping Saddam’s elite troops. According to my son, the French executed their mission to perfection and “were about the only other troops beside us who knew what the hell they were doing.” For the first time in our history the French were not beside us in the subsequent confrontation with Saddam. This was due to President Chirac and his involvement in “commerce” with Saddam’s government. Of course the united Nations was too, but the scandal” oil for food” was largely covered up by One World Order idiots and worshipers of the UN. France has been with us in every other operation of importance throughout our history, and have supported us far more than Britain whom we have had to fight AGAINST in our history. How about our beloved neighbor Canada that we protected throughout the Cold War with our bomber command, but our so called “good neighbor” never paid us one red cent for all our help in keeping them safe. I could go on and on, but narrow minded people who eat up the characterizations of the French promulgated through comic movies like the Pink Poanther and idiot commentators like Bill O’Reilly who always badmouths the French, are frankly disgusting.
Sadly, i think you’re right.
Your comment,
“reports say that the gunman that was out on the street shooting people at restaurants ....strolled down the street and casually reloaded... “
And this one...
“Once the attackers paused to reload, his group ran across the stage to the emergency exit,...”

Makes me compare how the Americans responded on the train a few months ago, and how the French responded a couple of days ago. I wasn’t there at either horrible event, but regardless; it seems that the French don’t want to be victims and act as such, compared to the Americans that refuse to be victims and take matters into their hands.
If you've received this ping, you're already on!

just voted, 78.44% Yes.
I emailed some friends who have CCW so that they could vote in this poll.
Exactly. That is one of several reasons I refuse to participate in the Facebook-promoted ‘change your profile picture’ meme...
I ignore those signs. All they can do is ask me to leave if they see it.
I simply don’t go to venues that search for weapons; I care not to be a victim entrusting my life to someone else. I’ve given away tickets at the door due to such searches.
Spot on Bryanw92 !
Snoot ;o)
I do.
Excellent idea. Maybe I can hustle up a few voters.
Sorry, but I disagree. Trump will bring back the allies who think we have gotten too soft because of ODUMBO.
Well he's alienated Mexico, Germany, and France so far. He's on a roll.
I mean, once you calm down and readjust your wig and stop blathering, try and understand what I said.
I said nothing about French military men for whom I have respect. I can respect all military men without having much respect for their government or their citizenry. Although, my experiences in France have all been positive, I also know that the French have disliked America all the way back to the days of DeGaulle. It was French citizens who discussed the possibility of digging up American bodies from military cemeteries. It was the French who got involved in Viet Nam and it was they who fought a vicious war in Algeria which culminated in the brilliant film “Battle of Algiers.” It was the French who provided a home to the Ayatollah Komeinhi who brought chaos and horror to Iran. It was Simone Beauvoir and Sartre who brought Existentialism to the West and Foucault who brought cultural Marxism. Cultural Marxism is why we have chaos in our institutions at home and chaos and brutality to the streets of Paris. It was Simone Signoret and Yves Montand who destroyed Jean Seberg and Marilyn Monroe and wrecked destruction on the moral fiber of Jane Fonda.
So don't get on your high horse with your stupid allusions to Pink Panther movies - excellent comedies, by the way, which are probably too amusing for a humorless sod like you.
And your moniker - named after one of my heroines who lived several miles from where I'm now writing this - should be stripped from you.
The pork would be an additional bonus. - If I have my gun
with me, I may not have bacon available in my purse. I
guess one of those dried sausage sticks would do. However,
if I have a sausage stick, we tend to eat it up pretty
quick; so I can’t always count on that.
He has not alienated France. What gives you that opinion? Do you know the French people? Are you basing your belief on ONE ambassador who is a political appointee as voicing the opinion of the entire country of France?
Germany has its own problems....namely Merkel who is in trouble politically so I wouldn’t worry about Germany....besides they are no help anyway. As far as Mexico is concerned, they NEED to be cut down to size and we need to ship their people back to them to pay their upkeep.
Trump is right!
>>I may not have bacon available in my purse.
I wonder if those Beggin’ Strips have any bacon in them. It would be great to give them bacon that is made for a dog.
Newbies should be seen (very occasionally) and not heard at all.
