WP: A high school teacher helps clarify ‘socialism’ for Donald Trump (and you!)
Washington Post ^ | October 24 at 8:30 AM | Philip Bump

The day after the first Democratic presidential debate, Donald Trump called Bernie Sanders a maniac.

"This socialist-slash-communist," Trump said to raucous cheers. "I call him a socialist-slash-communist, because that's what he is."

Well, no. The terms "socialist" and "communist" are often confused, thanks in large part to the Cold War. Layer on top of that the nuance of the term "democratic socialist," which is how Sanders describes himself, and it's easy to see why people might generally be confused...

To offer America a bit of a primer, I reached out to Dr. Lawrence Quill, chairman and professor of political science at San Jose State University, over e-mail. He explained the difference between communism, socialism, capitalism and democratic socialism -- in very professorial terms...

Socialism was in part a response to capitalism, largely through the writings of Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels...

Communism "was the endpoint of Marx's ideas," Quill writes, though Marx didn't delineate what it would look like, exactly...

“Die hard commies say that Russia, Cuba, China, Vietnam, et al were not REAL Communism.’

I can call B.S. on that one.

I lived in the PRC for 5 years. I’d dare those fools to call even a mid-level cadre in the CCP that he wasn’t a real communist. That is a one way ticket to a re-education center.

I have a PhD from a Chinese University. Every university there is an administrative officer in every Chinese university called the “Bookkeeper” their job is to make sure that all research supports Communist dogma. If you wish to state something that might go against that dogma you have to clear it with the bookkeeper first.

The best man at my wedding was from Tito’s Yugoslavia. I’d challenge them go back in time and try telling those guys that they were not real communist.

Fools say that when they have a non-communist military protecting them.

“Articles like this one are the reason this paper is known as the Washington Compost. Pure crap from the first capital letter to the last period.”

ALMOST correct. At least it correctly stated that college students sit around coffee houses arguing about nothing. Everything else, including the test at the end, is pretty much crap.

>>It is like moderate Islamic theocratic government. It is ‘tolerant’ of dissenters until the numbers of majority are reached and then it isn’t.

I agree. This is why defeating the GOPe is so important. They are socialists too and are basically telling us, “Come on. Your leaders in both parties like this stuff. Why are you being so hard-headed?”

gee, a high school teacher, eh? And I should trust one of those union lackeys because why?

Trump wasn’t engaging in a dissected socio-economic philosophy study. He was working to win a campaign against some people who think an overarching dictatorial statist federal government is the best thing for a nation of 300 million people.

So Trump’s words FIT PERFECTLY for the situation and context of his goal.

I challenge these Communist deniers to move to one of their “not-REAL Communism” paradises and push for REFORM Communism if they think the ideals of Marx are so wonderful.

Instead they’d rather subvert and overthrow OUR Constitutional form of government and change it to a ‘Socialist Utopia’.

They aren’t happy when I call them out over it.

Some will concede that while their goal IS Communism, they don’t see it happening in their lifetime so they will go the incremental route and accept moving the ball closer down the field every so many years.

I would add that none of these concepts will work without a population which is self-disciplined through a common religious belief system.

In other words, a sense of morality and decency is necessary. A reliance upon a large central government is just another form of slavery and idol worship.

Basic definition of a communist nation is where the government owns the property. Basic ideals of socialism is when government attempts to level unbalance by taking from some and giving to others. socialists can’t give to others what they don’t first take (own). Therefor, socialism can only exist under communism or some level of it. And when the communists are making the rules and drawing the lines, it is open-ended and the eventual outcome is complete state control of all property.

That's the sort of Communist propaganda that the Democrats use these days.

The Red tide radicals of 1968 took over the Democrat Party, the media, and academia.

The worst thing about these Liberals is that they have ideas. These ideas appear great and benevolent to the liberals but are only potent and dangerous.

In the 1960s (and 2001) persons like Bill Ayers were honest that they were okay with violent revolution and genocide on the order of tens of millions dead to accomplish their goals.

In the Communist Manifesto, Marx calls socialism ‘lower communism’.

It’s a stepping stone to full out communism. That’s why one of the USSRs leaders - can’t remember which- said communism would come to America incrementally, through socialism.

And I sure don’t need some liberal professor to tell me liberal lies!

Excellent logic.

And fascism is somewhere in between where the state controls the property via regulations. That’s where we are.

Hopefully Trump will do his double-down reaction and go further with his statements about socialism and communism.

I love it when he does that. (Carson did also about Muslims. But he’s off my list since he is pro-amnesty.) The MSM attacks some ‘controversial’ statement expecting an apology and backing down like all previous weak-kneed Republicans did. Instead they get an aggressive re-iteration of the statement plus more. And poll numbers go up and free publicity abounds! It’s been great to see after the cowardliness since the 80’s.
