In Ego, Obama and Trump Are Two Of A Kind
Townhall.com ^ | October 24, 2015 | Jeff Jacoby

ARE YOU crazy about Barack Obama? Do you fervently hope the next president of the United States will be as similar to the current president as possible?

Then Donald Trump may be the candidate for you.

Of all the candidates running for president, the one who most resembles the incumbent is not Hillary Clinton or Bernie Sanders or Martin O'Malley. To be sure, the Democrats' policy views largely overlap with Obama's. But when it comes to attitude and self-image, it's Obama and Trump who are birds of a feather.

Everyone knows about Donald Trump's bottomless narcissism; this is a man who has affixed the name "Trump" to everything from hotels to golf courses to cologne. Asked the other day which world leaders he would reach out to upon being elected, Trump replied that he wouldn't need to call anyone: "I think I'd probably have them call me."

But Obama's march to the White House also involved startling displays of self-glorification, from Greek-style columns to a triumphal foreign tour to his own official seal (complete with Latin motto). From the earliest days of his presidency, it was clear that Obama was deeply enamored of himself, and had no doubt that the rest of the planet was just as smitten. "I am well aware," he told the UN General Assembly, "of the expectations that accompany my presidency around the world." He gifted the queen of England with an iPod that included his own speeches. Obama's addiction to the first-person singular pronoun — "I," "me," "my" — has been remarked on by many; he has even referred to "my military" and the troops "fighting on my behalf."

Anyone who finds such vanity attractive should relish the prospect of a Trump presidency. Trump, after all, never doubts his own brilliance. He's always the smartest person in the room; just ask him. Sound familiar?

"I'm a better speechwriter than my speechwriters," Obama told campaign aides in 2008. "I know more about policies on any particular issue than my policy directors. And I'll tell you right now that I'm gonna think I'm a better political director than my political director."

When a presidential candidate talks that way, what could possibly go wrong?

Trump’s is based on truth. Obama’s is based on lies.

This premise is pure spaz. Trump has earned what he has, Barky is affirmative action, period.

Let’s talk about the ego of the author of this article. Geeesh. Ego’s that’s the issue now? Ego size?

No there is a difference. Trump has a record of accomplishments. Trump has honed organizational and business skills and communication skills. Trump knows how to increase wealth of rich and poor alike. Trump’s arrogance is backed by skills and a love for America.

Obama’s was backed by hot air, opinions without any real world experience, a muslim upbringing, a desire to redistribute instead of create wealth, and a dislike for America.

Can the author identify anyone who ran for President of the United States and didn’t have an ego? It’s kind of a prerequisite if you think you ought to be the leader of the free world.

When the 68-story Obama Tower goes up in Manhattan, then we can talk similarities between Trump and Obama.

Jeff Jacoby.....idiot

They are nothing alike. Trump has accomplishments and Real Estate buildings & golf courses all over the world. (Which by the way employs THOUSANDS of people.)

And Obama Hussein SAYS: "He didn't build those."

Crub for Grofh. Democrat game of making false comparison and false choice and false narrative.

Successful Business Giant vs. sleazy community organizer. I don’t see much comparison here except that the Democrat/International money parlayed the sleazy community organizer, using his race into the white house. The business man has to overcome his success to be acceptable to the failures that populate the GOPe.

Well said. Trump, Sanders, Carson, Cruz are honest about themselves. Hilary, Obama and few others pretend to be something they are not.

The whole ego thing is TRUMP’S trademark, just like RUSH’S “One hand tied behind my back” persona.

You asked what Trump’s positions are....well here they are, enjoy:

Oh he won’t run;

Oh he won’t send in his financial statement;

Oh he won’t last;

Oh he’s going to be dropping out;

Oh his numbers are going down;

Oh he is behind the pack;

OK, for over 100 days he has lead the Republican Candidates, he has filled more arenas, statiums, fairs, than any of the other candidates, and he has a gun plan out, and a tax plan out, and he has a multi-billion dollar company he is running, and a book coming out...and is speaking to events at least twice a week...

Now you tell me, what are the other candidates doing? Oh yes, Ben Carson LEFT his campaign to do a ‘book tour’ but Trump hasn’t left HIS campaign for his ‘book tour’....Jeb is whining about his brother’s name; Rubio, a sitting Senator from Fla isn’t showing up for votes in the Senate; and on and on...what are they doing? I’ll tell you what Trump is doing:

This is the Trump Train:

He has told us about illegal immigration, and how he would handle it;

He has shown that if we had good immigration laws, we wouldn’t have the people that blew up the World Trade Center Buildings, the Pentagon...and has proved what needs to be done to enact the laws;

He has told us about how to get jobs back into America, and what he would do to do it;

He has a tax plan, and how it works;

He has a gun plan, and how he would work it;

He has told us obumacare is bad for the country, and what he would do about it;

He has told us about the Social Security going broke, and what he is going to do about it;

He has told us that the immigrants are being treated better than our vets, and what he would do to change it;

He has told us why he is financing his own campaign and why he is doing that;

He has told us that he wants Education back in the States, not in the federal government; and how bad common core is and why;

He has told us why he wants to shut down the EPA, and the reasons why;

He has told us why P.C. is so bad, and how it is taking away our expression of the freedoms we have;

So this is why my support goes to Trump, he makes deals, he runs multi billion dollar companies, and owns them, with someone as brilliant as this, I want THIS someone to put America on its feet again....

Bull hockey.

Trump has actually accomplished things and earned billions doing it.

Obola is the puppet of megalomaniacal billionaires.

Anyone who tries to equate a man (Obama) who has all of his adult life, repeatedly demonstrated an absolute loathing for all forms of traditional Americanism, and a man who openly proclaims his desire to restore the greatness of traditional America, is totally unable to focus on reality.

The writer confuses Obama's ego with Trump's sense of purpose. An egotistical Quisling is not the same thing as a confident Patriot.

Trump is not perfect; but he is infinitely more capable and better focused than any of the candidates Republicans have accepted as nominees since Reagan left Office.

The writer could benefit from a remedial course on reasoning.

Trump though is a builder and employer. Obama is a decider and wrecks things.

Another bile laced tirade from a GOPe Toady. One thing we can say for Trump, he is showing us who the faux Conservatives are.
