From Donald Trump, Hints of a Campaign Exit Strategy
NYTIMES ^ | 10/9/15 | Maggie Hagerman

Posted on 10/09/2015 12:30:21 PM PDT by VinL

In unmistakable ways over the last two weeks, whether he has intended to or not, Donald J. Trump has started to articulate a way out of the presidential race: a verbal parachute that makes clear he has contemplated the factors that would cause him to end his bid.

It is a prospect that many in the political establishment have privately predicted as the actual voting grows closer.

In three separate television interviews, Mr. Trump, who has made his standing in the polls a central facet of his campaign message, spoke about what would prompt him to quit a race in which he is currently leading in the polls.

“I’m not a masochist,” Mr. Trump told Chuck Todd, the host of “Meet the Press” on NBC News, last weekend. “If I were doing poorly, if I saw myself going down, if you would stop calling me because you no longer have any interest in Trump because ‘he has no chance,’ I’d go back to my business.”

It was similar to what he said in an interview with the “Today” show a few days earlier, and at another point to “60 Minutes” on CBS.

In interviews this week, Mr. Trump insisted he was in the race to win, and took aim at “troublemakers” in the media who, he said, are misrepresenting his remarks. “I’m never getting out,” he insisted Friday on MSNBC.

Mr. Trump keeps noting that he still leads in every major Republican poll and is in a political position that others would envy, and he says he will spend the money to keep his candidacy alive. But he conceded ...

“The NYT, always trying to create history that way they want to see it.”

Think Maggie will be penning an article with the headline, “From Hillary Clinton, Hints of a Campaign Exit Strategy” anytime soon? I don’t think so either. The left is desperate for anything to save her Highness Hillary.

No problem with having an exit strategy so you don’t waste time or money. The 1%ers should have one.

This just means Trump considers all possibilities before jumping in - he won’t go to war either, without knowing how to get out.

The interviews with the various GOP consultants and operatives “hint” at what’s really motivating the anti-Trump campaign: he’s a threat to their gravy train.

He said that Trump wouldn’t be the nominee and that he was confident Trump supporters would gravitate to him

Again?! Well, one thing for it is more free press for Trump, more egg on the face of the media, and less we hear from everyone else. Guess we should take that as a positive. (Trump wouldn’t be playing them, would he?)

We’ll see what Trump is made of after the IA and NH voters come out. If he loses both of those - maybe he stays in until SC. Maybe.

I can’t remember who said it, but the gist was, that if Jeb! had Trump’s polling numbers for this long, he would have already been declared the winner.

"As Bloomberg’s John Heilemann said on “Morning Joe,” if Jeb Bush had Mr. Trump’s numbers everyone would declare the race over."

Maggie Hagerman.....what an idiot.

Donald Trump has repeatedly said he’s going to remain in the race.

Trump made an off-the-cuff remark about leaving the race if his poll numbers were 1%, like some of the losers currently hanging on....Pataki, Linda Graham, Bobbie “Trump’s a madman who needs to be stopped” Jindahl. etc. although Trump never mentioned them by name.

Meanwhile, left-wing pea brains like Maggie Hagerman, whoever the hell she is, continue to spew this “Trump is leaving the race” BS.

Will the GOP still try to kill their nominee?
***************************************

Politically speaking, yes, I believe they would.
We saw what they do to candidates for Senator that they don’t like.

really?! i guess that semi alliance is over. unless Trump knows it’s true also.

very intriguing

does trump want to be pres or want Cruz to be pres and will throw his votes that way.

however, only a fraction of trump voters say Cruz is their second choice

Winners of Iowa seldom win the nomination.
Ditto with NH. Any one can win. Even Sanders, Huckabee.

Very small electorate (Iowa does not have a primary election, only caucus goers get to vote, usually around 150,000 out of a state population of 3.1 million).

When primaries move to the much more expensive markets such as Florida & SC and super Tuesday, that is when the men will separate the boys.

More bloviating bull $**t from an anti-American communist rag. Just this morning on MSNBC Trump clarified he is in this to win.
