A group of hard-line conservatives threatened to upend the Republican race to succeed outgoing House Speaker John A. Boehner, announcing on Wednesday it will throw its support behind a little-known Florida lawmaker to become the next speaker.
The House Freedom Caucuss backing of Rep. Daniel Webster (R-Fla.) ahead of a crucial internal party vote Thursday deeply complicates Majority Leader Kevin O. McCarthys bid to succeed Boehner. The group counts enough members about 40 to deny McCarthy the majority of the whole House he would need to claim the speakers chair.
But in an opening for the California Republican, caucus members said Wednesday that the endorsement is binding on members only for Thursdays party vote and that it would not necessarily apply to the decisive Oct. 29 floor vote.

NO KEVIN McCARTHY!!
So the conservatives are going to fold after another freakin show vote?
They are all frauds, they all talk a good game,as Ted Cruz says, campaign conservatives,McCarthy is an ahole,he proved it with his big mouth,if any of these so called freedom conference votes for this guy, they should have their names known and exposed as the fraud they are and thrown out of that caucus and I would view that caucus as just another club of frauds that are there for venting by the few traditional Americans left in the Country
mccarthy needs to go. His ‘gaffe’ about the benghazi hearings should earn him a one way ticket out of congress.
what an absolute d-bag
“Hard-line conservatives?” I won’t hold my breath waiting for the Washington Compost to make reference to “hard-line liberals.”
Throw him out!
But, but, but, will such a rejection impact his “North Carolina” connection? And to my dismay, I sent her money in her original campaign...register me as “foolish” to believe conservative ideals based on campaign rhetoric.
Renee Ellmers is a MEAN piece of work....OUT WITH RENEE!!
If McCarthy or another non-conservative gets the speakership, I am not supporting the Republicans again, money wise or voting wise. We have given the Republicans the House and the Senate, and they betrayed us. Why vote Republican when we have two parties that are socialist? I guess the pendulum has swung too far to the left to ever get it back.
Could be Kabuki theater or not.
It’s a protest vote. The fix is in for McCarthy. I heard Jim Jordan on Hannity and he was already talking what concessions they wanted from leadership. They are looking for changes to the House rules, IIRC. Probably regular order, etc. So over the next few weeks a deal will be done and McCarthy will be Speaker.
Hold on a second.
I am the biggest Ted Cruz / alt-Republican supporter but at some point realities need to be taken into account.
Look at the federal budget for example. It would be impossible to turn the federal budget into a free market, liberty, Constitution based budget overnight. It would be totally possible to simply de-fund Obamacare, Planned Parenthood and executive amnesty. We should do everything in our power to get those goals accomplished.
Similarly, I believe it will be nearly impossible to get a true tea party style patriot as Speaker of the House. However, we could put enough pressure that we could get the leadership to change the party rules in order to share more power with conservative committee chairmen. While this wouldn’t accomplish everything we want, it would go a long way toward furthering conservative policies and would be MUCH better than the Boehner led house of the past.
It seems our options are thus...
Strong McCarthy - 66% chance (going down the same road we have been going)
Weak McCarthy - 33% chance (conservatives banding together and demanding power sharing)
A Conservative = 1% chance (a miracle)
I say we take the weak McCarthy and then come back for more at a later time.
They are not in the majority of the party let alone the caucus. Look at the last few presidential nominees. We are a minority in this party.
‘zackly.
Get your tar and feathers ready
that seems an ignorant statement
it is a vote for a conservative candidate
cynicism is unwarrented
Yes, it’s already in the bag.
But, to say the budget is impossible to ‘fix’ overnight? Hogwash, I say. I can barely name *a* department/agency/etc. that ISN’T replicated at the State level; let alone the sheer amount of overlap (how long ago was THAT report delivered to Congress...and languished til dusty and moth-ridden on the shelf?).
Yes, it CAN be done, but, as others had speculated, there’s no difference between the Socialist+ running of both parties. One REALLY runs to that goal the other fast-walks. SSDD, as we’re seeing (again) now.
Thank God, this fiasco is finally waking some from their stupor and/or cheerleading.
Your right,was just venting frustration
