Hold on a second.
I am the biggest Ted Cruz / alt-Republican supporter but at some point realities need to be taken into account.
Look at the federal budget for example. It would be impossible to turn the federal budget into a free market, liberty, Constitution based budget overnight. It would be totally possible to simply de-fund Obamacare, Planned Parenthood and executive amnesty. We should do everything in our power to get those goals accomplished.
Similarly, I believe it will be nearly impossible to get a true tea party style patriot as Speaker of the House. However, we could put enough pressure that we could get the leadership to change the party rules in order to share more power with conservative committee chairmen. While this wouldn’t accomplish everything we want, it would go a long way toward furthering conservative policies and would be MUCH better than the Boehner led house of the past.
It seems our options are thus...
Strong McCarthy - 66% chance (going down the same road we have been going)
Weak McCarthy - 33% chance (conservatives banding together and demanding power sharing)
A Conservative = 1% chance (a miracle)
I say we take the weak McCarthy and then come back for more at a later time.
Yes, it’s already in the bag.
But, to say the budget is impossible to ‘fix’ overnight? Hogwash, I say. I can barely name *a* department/agency/etc. that ISN’T replicated at the State level; let alone the sheer amount of overlap (how long ago was THAT report delivered to Congress...and languished til dusty and moth-ridden on the shelf?).
Yes, it CAN be done, but, as others had speculated, there’s no difference between the Socialist+ running of both parties. One REALLY runs to that goal the other fast-walks. SSDD, as we’re seeing (again) now.
Thank God, this fiasco is finally waking some from their stupor and/or cheerleading.
