U.S. representatives beat back an attempt Wednesday to disband the House Select Committee on Benghazi, as Republicans quashed the latest push from Democrats to try to discredit the panel ahead of a hearing later this month featuring former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton.
Rep. Louise Slaughter, New York Democrat and ranking member of the House Rules Committee, had introduced the privileged resolution, which cited recent comments Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy made about the work of the committee and Mrs. Clintons sagging poll numbers.
The resolution was ruled out of order, and members voted to table an appeal of the ruling by a 240-183 vote.
Mr. McCarthys statement demonstrates that the Select Committee established by Republican leaders in the House of Representatives was created to influence public opinion of a presidential candidate, according to Ms. Slaughters resolution, which also said taxpayer funds have been improperly used for political purposes.

Hopefully, Kevin McCarthy took himself out of any serious contention for the Speaker’s post with his idiotic remarks.
Bump.
McCarthy proved that he is not ready for prime time. Boehner’s incompetence must be contagious.
The Repubs weren’t going to allow this. It extends their “we’re getting nowhere” posturing and pandering for votes.
A demonrat making such a statement is kind of funny if it weren't so sad.
An incompetent leader will usually appoint incompetent lieutenants. The entire Republican so called "leadership" needs to be replaced.
Watch the Rovians try to shove him through anyway.
When was the Committee formed?
When did Hillary announce she was a candidate?
Are the accusations true?
Isn’t it “partisan” because only Democrats were involved in the wrong doing?
McCarthy was stupid, but it doesn’t change the facts of the case.
How many times will she use Kevin McCarthy's name?
...every question is my guess.
Too stupid to be Speaker!
Doubtful that he has the level of personal integrity that would be required to do something like that.
McCarthy already did that for them.
Don’t make a drinking gave out of it, for sure...
But wait....didn’t Mrs. Clinton state that she “asked” to testify before the committee and was looking forward to it to set the record straight? Now time draws near and she recoils like Bella Lugosi being shown the cross. Not that we don’t already have a preview of what her testimony might sound like. Pretty in pink redux filled with “I can’t recall” and “I have no recollection of that” wafts of putrid air.
Amen! LOL
“I can’t remember, my mind’s in a blender, it’s Jell-O.”
Attaway Democrats!
Aiding and abetting the traitor!
Louise Slaughter, New York has been involved in Monroe Democrat county politics since 1973. At that time Xerox, Kodak, Bausch + Lomb among others were the major employers in Rochester, New York, they were rich, generous non-union companies..... some employees used to buy new cars every year with their bonuses. During the ‘60s and ‘70s the Lib/Progs made great head way politically; race-riots and worker-priests help leading the tranistion. Since 1974 there has been an unbroken string of Democrats running Rochester.
Currently the Rochester City School District is rated 672 out 673 school districts listed in New York by School Digger. ONLY ONE RATED WORSE.
My Public response to Rep. Slater would be if he thought it was that big of a deal perhaps he could ask Ranking Minority Leader Elijah Cummings to send in the IRS/OSHA/Treasury departments to harass them as he did with the Tea Party Groups.
