I was a a Maker Faire today and noticed a 60ish man wearing a shirt with the words "United We Stand" and "9-11-2001" on it. Thinking he might be a fellow traveler, I struck up a conversation and asked him who was supporting for President.
"Not Biden, not Biden," he said. "I don't want Hillary either. Um, what is his name? Oh yeah, Boehner!" (He pronounced it properly as 'Bayner'.)
"Boehner?" I replied. "Are you sure you mean Boehner?"
"Yeah, Boehner," he insisted.
I took pity on him. "Do you mean 'Bernie'? Bernie Sanders?"
"Yes, that's who it is," said this ultra-low-information voter.
I thanked him and left. I don't know whether to laugh or cry.
Could be the poor guy is in an early stage of dementia.
Cry - he’ll be voting for somebody.....
“Could be the poor guy is in an early stage of dementia.”
I was thinking along those lines myself.
[Could be the poor guy is in an early stage of dementia.]
I don’t think that’s actually any different than voting for Bernie Sanders.
He’ll know the name when he votes the 2nd and 3rd times.
Not something to joke about.
OMG! Thanks for playing it nice and non sarcastic. We all have those ‘vacant’ moments. I know I do. Some folks are more sight oriented. If you had a bunch of flashcards with the candidate faces, I’ll bet he could have picked him out.
Maybe.
You don’t actually have any proof of dementia. It could easily just be someone forgetful.
Besides, there’s already a ton of info out there on low-information voters who don’t know a thing.
Who's joking? This guy, even if he is sitting in a diaper in a nursing home is going to vote, by absentee ballot, next September. He's been voting as a good Union man for whoever the Democrats pushed since he was 21. He probably couldn't spell Clinton, or Carter, or Obama, or Gore, but he voted for all of them.
Again, there is no mocking, only horror.
Dementia as an ailment is not a requirement to vote for Bernie Sanders. It more likely is congenital.
Quick, get Pat Buchanan on the ballot so this gleep accidentally votes for him. /s
When my Grandmother turned 100 President Bush sent her a signed Birthday Card. My Uncle pointed it out to her, loudly, over and over. She replied “Is he a Democrat or a Republican?” When my Uncle told her he was a Republican she said “Well, I didn’t vote for him!”
And just how would that differ from your average democrat voter?
I work with a guy like this... Has no idea that socialism means he’ll lose an extra 30% of his salary, lose his healthcare and his retirement savings.
Low information voters are legion — a potential majority too.
But our little Republican primary voters aren’t the sharpest knives in the drawer either.
Based on the 2008 & 2012 elections, I’d say they must be a plurality by now (factoring in the government worker vote that went to Obama in both elections as INFORMED voters choosing more goodies for themselves). I work with old white women who do this; they are insulated from the tax burdens by their alimony payments (though they are now finding themselves unable to afford retirement).
