Just before the new semester kicked off at Old Dominion University, some un-"welcome" signs have resulted in a fraternity's suspension.
Parents bringing their freshmen students to move-in at the Norfolk, Virginia, campus and community last week might have glimpsed these banners hanging from the balcony of a private home.
"Rowdy and Fun. Hope your baby girl is ready for a good time," read one of the signs, which was spray-painted on a sheet. "Freshman daughter drop off," and "Go ahead and drop off mom too," were messages displayed on two other sheets, CNN affiliate WTKR reported.
Members of the Sigma Nu fraternity live at the house, and now the national Sigma Nu organization has suspended the group while it investigates the incident.

Ever read Shakespeare’s plays? Full of crude rude innuendo. I support Shakespeare. Sorry, but humor is a core tenant of conservatism. It was humor. It was not all that crude. Innuendo. Subtle. Funny.
You apparently lack a sense of humor. As I said, unwad the PC panties please.
SigNu brothers were drunken heathens at Florida State when I was there in the late 90s. Looks like it’s a national disorder.
That being said, this is nothing new. You see this across every college campus. Not sure why the uproar.
Ever read Shakespeares plays? Full of crude rude innuendo.
What you are is Victorian. Just understand that. Old fashioned today, but older fashioned was much cruder. You are merely a neoVictorian. Nothing wrong with that, but is just a blip in history when people were so uptight.
i guess the school had a problem with parents getting too much accurate information
if the school takes govt money then they’ve got a problem
A comment by a woman at the Fox News site regarding this story sniffed that she was amused by “sophomoric humor”.
Umm, why do you think they call it “sophomoric”?
Because it’s the type of humor a bunch of college sophomores would find funny - exactly the sort of people that live in a frat house.
It’s the frat’s national hq that suspended them, not the school.
Incidentally, I just showed this to my college-aged waitress who first dropped her jaw and said “OMG, that’s awful!!” But then she read it a second time and started laughing at the “drop off Mom” part.
So prudery is "left wing" now? I guess that makes me a Communist.
I'll never understand the bizarre contradictory positions and alliances of politics.
You want funny? "Funny" was the ongoing battle between the administration and (I think) the NROTC cadets over whether the fountain in front of the student union would be clear, or dyed fluorescent green. I sided with the NROTC guys ...
Back then, the frat rats (apologies to rattus norvegicus) were a fairly small presence on campus. A good thing, IMO.
I guess Im merely a neoVictorian. Im sorry that you evidently find it amusing that young savages should so dishonor the wives and young daughters of people that they do not know. Courtesy to others and a sense of family honor has nothing to do with political correctness. It is part of the fabric that holds a society together.
In Shakespeares time such conduct as shown by these snotnosed brats would result in someone getting their throat slit. In Victorian times it would merely result in a well-deserved horse whipping.
Sigma Zoo.
Ridiculous! Boy will be boys. This is all in good fun. If college kids can’t do this then we are all in deep doodoo. Think of all the other obscene and sexual type activities colleges and universities host - and this is bad?? Come on now!!
I think the banners are funny!
If either of my sons did something like this, which they wouldn’t because they were raised better, you would see me on the news like that mother who was beating the crap out of her son at those protests.
*I am sure I risk being called a sexist pig etc., but I thought those sheet signs were pretty funny.*
Do you have a daughter? If you do I feel sorry for her.
At least they are telling you where they are coming from. Kinda like wearing anything made by Axe - it’s girl repellant.
Good grief — it’s a joke.
*Ridiculous! Boy will be boys.*
And men will be men.
> I know a lot of people seem to have an adverse opinion of fraternities and sororities. But I joined a fraternity when I went to a cow college in Oklahoma and it was one of the better experiences of my life.
Over the years, a few chapters have done some bad things, to be sure. But, then, bad things happen in dormitories, too. Not to mention off-campus housing. Frankly, I've never understood the animus.
