With a record 24 million people watching the GOP debate, youd think there would have been a lot more time spent on the most important issue of the day: the economy. Look at any poll. Jobs and the economy are always at the top of the list. But there was barely a mention of this on Thursday night.
The Republican Party is not going to win this election unless it persuades the electorate that its primary principles of low marginal tax rates, lighter regulation, free trade and a sound dollar are the best path to growth. Call it free-market capitalism. Call it supply-side. Call it entrepreneurship. Call it take-home pay. But the endgame is growth and prosperity.

...Democrats have opened our borders to all manner of horrific Third World violence, crime, and disease. The GOP has supported and endorsed this vile activity every single step of the way. Trump has tapped into the fury of the American people over the unrelenting anti-American NWO push of our paid employees in government. Trump could win this on this one issue alone. Americans are tired of being betrayed by their government on both sides of the aisle....
“Jeb Bush was more pogrommmaticly, self mutilating...”
(fixed)
Pure Free traitor propaganda.
Smoot-Hawley had a minimal effect on the depression. China and Mexico run HUGE trade deficits with the USA. So much BS so few shovels.
They run huge surpluses with the USA, we run deficits....
Better tell that to Ferris Bueller's teacher.
It makes me want to mend my wandering ways and get a bumper sticker that says: 2016: Jeb or Christie or Kasich. (sarcasm)
I caught that line.
He will open the border and say its good for the economy.
They are bringing in a million legal immigrants a year on top of another million illegals, into a shrinking job market. I guess it never occurs to them that their job is to serve the citizens, that immigration policy should serve the interest of citizens. The border should be secured against illegals, and legal immigration should be reduced to effectively zero until the economy rebounds. Even then, how does it serve the citizen to have a million new immigrants each and every year?
So Kudlow thinks Kasich, Rubio and Bush are the winners. Polling shows they’re the big three losers. The POSITIVE approach to immigration: “Americans can do the work, themselves.”
Yep.
“Comprehensive” is too radioactive now. Everyone associates it with amnesty and open borders.
So some Luntz type (probably Luntz himself) came up with the genius word “effective.”
And the illegals send $$$$$$ home to their families!
Was just reading about an old company I used to work for that declared bankruptcy. Overseas competition and tax incentives hurt their bottom line.
Population growth grows economic output.
A strong economy with the drain of illegal and legal immigration stopped so the people can catch their breath would shoot the birth rate thru the roof.
Not if the growth comes from people who are pretty much all a drain on resources.
“Without immigration, the US would have a negative population growth rate. With present levels of immigration, population growth is about 0.9% per year.
Population growth grows economic output.”
Brilliant statement...I guess that’s why we’re doing so well right now...with all the new immigration. Mexico’s “finest” seem to be doing so well here and helping our economy.
Remind me again...why are so many AMERICANS out of work??
The Federal Reserves disastrous monetary policy caused the Great Depression. The Feds policies resulted in a 1/3 contraction of the money supply between 1929-32.
Second FDR and his Keynesian/Marxist cabal exacerbated and prolonged the great depression.
The Great Depression ended with Roosevelts' death.
If FDR followed President Harding's policies the depression would have been over in about 18 months. BTW, marxist liberals rate Harding near the bottom of Presidential rankings (because he took a knife to government spending to cure the Greater Depression he handled.)
That’s the real issue. After 20 years of hardcore “Free Trade”, we are in the toilet. Those who support the “free trade” status quo own the economy we have now.
I encourage everyone to go back and study the debate over NAFTA and ask yourself which side’s predictions for what would happen if it passed were more accurate.
He's the only candidate that understands the role our trade policies have had in de-industrializing America and causing our high unemployment.
That's our #1 problem at this point.
And trump is more than conservative enough on the other issues
42 Reasons Trump is conservative
There is (I assume it's still there) a provision in the WTO agreement that allows a scaled tariff in the face of chronic trade deficits. We should implement this immediately.
Which is why the fastest growing economies in the world are in places like Mauritania and Sudan while the weakest economic growth is found in places like China and South Korea.
