Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas, who met with fellow 2016 GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump Wednesday, said that unlike other Republicans, he’s not going to be bashing Mr. Trump in the wake of the real estate mogul’s comments on Mexico and illegal immigration.
“Donald and I are friends — we’ve gotten together a number of times before he was a candidate for president; we got together and visited today,” Mr. Cruz said Wednesday evening on Fox News’ “The Kelly File.” “You know, I like Donald because he’s brash, he’s bold, and he speaks the truth — he stands up to Washington. It’s what I’ve tried to do in my time in public office.”
“People are fed up with politicians; they’re fed up with what I call the Washington cartel — career politicians, Republicans and Democrats, who get in bed with the lobbyists and special interests, and I, in particular, salute Donald Trump for focusing on the problem of illegal immigration,” Mr. Cruz said.
Mr. Cruz allowed that Mr. Trump “speaks in colorful terms — he doesn’t speak the way you or I speak.”
“But an awful lot of Republican 2016 candidates went out of their way to beat him with a stick,” Mr. Cruz said, saying that he’s not going to join them. “Because I salute him for shining a light on the problem of illegal immigration, on the safety issues, on sanctuary cities.”

Where in the world did you get that?
Cruz should wise up and work for the party instead of being the dictatorial lone ranger.
He should also concede that he would make a great attorney general and eventual supreme court justice. I believe that is his true calling.
President??? Just don't think he would be effective.
A thought on a deal maker’s gambit.....
A Trump/Cruz ticket before the primary is going to evolve
Trump the deal maker will offer Cruz a deal he cant refuse
Is it better to run in 2020 or 2024 as a Texas Senator or as vice president that has solid achievement? That will be the deal
New York/Texas........win-win.........win
however.... that said Go Scott!
How about thinking beyond the election....with the Donald as Governor of NYS.
Trump would carry Texas so sadly he does not need Cruz on the ticket but Secretary of State?
Cotton was the only one who opposed it.
Please broaden my understanding of the issue if I’m wrong.
He didn’t disagree with Trump, and he set himself up as the adult in the room. The electable version of Trump.
If you agree with Trump, yet don’t think he’s presidential material, you have Cruz. You want to lock in Obama’s legacy, vote for Jeb.
Cruz is a smart cookie.
Cruz is very smart to chart this course. It keeps him in the news along with Trump. The others are non existent at this point.
I don’t know if Cruz can get any higher in my book. I am sick and tired of so-called Conservatives jumping whenever the media tells them to jump. Nothing Trump has said is in anyway controversial, unless you are part of the problem, or not a true Conservative.
I wasn’t disagreeing...I hadn’t heard it.
I could see trump as VP—with Cruz. They think alike. Cruz could make him the Border Czar—over see the wall! Head of a new military unit—The Border Guard—a Border Patrol on steriods with Armored cars, warthogs, and F-16 (heck even P-51s could keep the illegals at bay). Trump could be Cruz’s “hit man” to fire anyone not doing his job.
Thanks, I understand.
There’s better discussion elsewhere on what a bad deal it was, especially as it was sold to us to allegedly give Congress power (that it already Constitutionally has) to “review” Hussein’s “deal”. Cruz supposedly was initially against it but then voted for it. I haven’t been able to reconcile it myself, and Trump’s been looking better lately, especially for actually TALKING DOWN to the Fraud like Hussein has done to America, something I’ve been complaining about for years, that no R dared to talk down to the racist pig pres(id)ent.
Wow. He really said that? Impressing.
I know now what you were talking about...and didn't understand myself. I am a Cruz fan...and I like what Trump is doing.
I don't trust career politicians and there's no difference between theirs and ours, IMO.
I like the part where Trump said he could make Mexico build the wall.
