Gone With the Wind is Birth of a Nation with less horses. The movie, and its position among the American cinematic pantheon, has done more to further the ahistoric Lost Cause bull**** than any other single production. Because that's the fundamental problem with the Lost Cause narrative: it's not true.
Let's go one-by-one through some typical Lost Cause-tinged revisionist talking points:

Dear Mr. Price, if you’re going to publish, you should learn the language. It’s “fewer horses” not “less horses”. Use “fewer” when it refers to something you can count (like horses). Use “less” when it refers to something that you can’t count (like stupidity).

I agree, GWTW. as a work of romantic fiction, was a very accurate portrayal of the old South during the Civil War. It was NOT about the issue of slavery as some liberal idiots believe. I am surprised these idiots have not called for GWTW to be banned because it portrays slavery.
BTW, Mrs. Texicanus is a GWTW collector/fanatic. She could watch the movie everyday. The house is full of GWTW dolls, plates, posters, and other memorabilia. I’m her Rhett and she’s my Scarlett for the past 41 years.

We find GWTW collectors every where we go. It’s is so sad, political correctness and big government want to intrude into our lives at this level and tell us we are racists because of our heritage.
These people who would have us deny or change our heritage are fools. It’s like trying to change the spots on a leopard. There’s nothing we can do to change the past except learn from our past failures and successes.
People descended from slaves must recognize the successes they have achieved since the abolition of slavery, instead they dwell on their failures and continue to blame it on racism.
I fear for America. Like the old South, the America we once knew may soon be GWTW.

I actually would love to move to Georgia to be close to the source of the book. That’s how much I love it.
Interestedly, I have found that black Africans and immigrants to the USA tend to disassociate themselves from our Afro-American blacks and it’s ghetto culture.
Many of the black professionals you see in our country came from Africa. They utilized their new found opportunities to achieve success in America.
They have proven African blacks can succeed in America, so why can’t Afro-Americans do the same? Is ‘whitey’ or racism keeping the black man down, or is the black man really keeping himself down?
America cannot guarantee a black man or any person success, they must earn it. Granted, the playing field may be slightly uneven, because of affirmative action biased toward minorities and special interest groups, but there really is no reason for anyone not to succeed if they try.
So I think all this racism crap is a smokescreen for big government socialism and welfare. As long as people, black or white, expect their government to provide them the necessities of life and care for them they will be slaves on the government plantation. They must learn to work and use the opportunities they are afforded if they want to be free. Unfortunately, many have chosen to take what the government gives them instead of what they came achieve for themselves.
And daily, with increasing enthusiasm, they blame racism, past injustices, and the lack of more opportunity as the cause for their condition. They are biting the hand that feeds them and in the process destroying America and themselves. Idiots!

Societies without governments, so nothing in modern times that I’m aware of. But there is a big difference between taxation that pays for necessities like defense and confiscatory taxation that is really just graft, corruption, redistribution, and enrichment of the “ruling class” at the expense of the working class.
Most of us are willing to pay taxes that give us defense, police and fire protection, infrastructure like roads and bridges.
Some of us (not me) are willing to pay taxes that give us schools, high speed rail, sports stadiums, etc. (I’m not against any of those things. I just think rail and sports should be funded by those businesses, not the taxpayer. I think schools are the responsibility of parents and/or students, not society.)
Few of us are willing to pay taxes that get funneled into ever larger bureaucracies and pay welfare recipients or unemployment. I’m not against charity when it is needed. I’m against the government being involved in it.

I think that, at that time, there were people who were just looking to undermine the social order. Just like now. If you look at the facts regarding what happened when Black people were freed &/or went north, it’s clear that the abolitionists weren’t their “benefactors” at all. To the contrary. Slaves had their needs provided for. Afterwards, they were really exploited- totally on their own & unprepared. They didn’t fare well, for the most part.
Not all, or even most, slave owners were rotten b*st*rds.
That said, I don’t “support” slavery, but it had been in practice for hundreds- even more than a thousand years. It wasn’t confined to Blacks. My father’s American ancestors were indentured Irish.
With mechanization, it was coming to an end anyway.
Slavery continues to this day- in Africa & elsewhere. Where is the outrage for that, I wonder? And why is it only such an issue for America, when it was widespread?
