This Is How Little It Cost Goldman To Bribe America's Senators To Fast Track Obama's TPP Bill
Zero Hedge ^ | 05/30/2015 | Tyler Durden

Posted on 05/31/2015 6:16:54 AM PDT by cutty

It took just a few days after the stunning defeat of Obama's attempt to fast-track the Trans Pacific Partnership bill in the Senate at the hands of his own Democratic party, before everything returned back to normal and the TPP fast-track was promptly passed. Why? The simple answer: money. Or rather, even more money.

Because while the actual contents of the TPP may be highly confidential, and their public dissemination may lead to prison time for the "perpetrator" of such illegal transparency

....

fast-tracking the TPP, meaning its passage through Congress without having its contents available for debate or amendments, was only possible after lots of corporate money exchanged hands with senators. The US Senate passed Trade Promotion Authority (TPA) – the fast-tracking bill – by a 65-33 margin on 14 May. Last Thursday, the Senate voted 62-38 to bring the debate on TPA to a close.

Those impressive majorities follow months of behind-the-scenes wheeling and dealing by the world’s most well-heeled multinational corporations with just a handful of holdouts.

...

The result: it took a paltry $1.15 million in bribes to get everyone in the Senate on the same page. And the biggest shocker: with a total of $195,550 in "donations", or more than double the second largest donor UPS, was none other than Goldman Sachs.

....

Seven Republicans who voted “yea” to fast-track and are also running for re-election next year cleaned up between January and March. Senator Johnny Isakson of Georgia received $102,500 in corporate contributions. Senator Roy Blunt of Missouri, best known for proposing a Monsanto-written bill in 2013 that became known as the Monsanto Protection Act, received $77,900 – $13,500 of which came from Monsanto.

“They are reasonably certain that Obama will be transparent”

Can anyone point to where Obama has ever been transparent?

Watching the Traitors trying to smear everyone warning about TPP is weird.

They appear to be either Paid Trolls or K street trolls or Senate aides.

Those two traitors Ryan and Cruz are trying to fool everyone with insulting K street written TPP propaganda columns.

Lets give Barry the Soros puppet unlimited power to rewrite a treaty that the Public is banned from seeing and can not be amended but Barry can after its voted on !

So how does the conversation go when a Company approaches to offer money?

Obviously this isn't illegal or it wouldn't happen.

The Senate DID NOT PASS the TPP!

The TPA is the only thing that has passed!

Where are you getting these lies from?

When was the last time you bought anything manufactured in the United States?

I check labels on everything I purchase and so far this year I got
strawberries from California as the only thing from the USA.

I'm not joking or making light of this either. We as a nation are in
big trouble if we do not bring manufacturing back, and right now if
something happened with China our economy would break. There would
be nothing to buy and taxes would dry up.

What happens if taxes dry up? It's a bold, in our face national security issue!

“(CNN)After weeks of tense negotiations on Capitol Hill and heavy lobbying from the White House, the Senate Friday night cleared a major trade bill that is a top priority of President Barack Obama.

The Trade Promotion Authority bill passed 62 to 37, with the support of 14 Democrats and most Republicans.”

I can’t believe I’m having to do this.

The Senate Has Passed the TPP Fast Track Bill—We Now Take Our Fight to the House
The Senate passed a bill Friday night to put the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) on the Fast Track to approval. Its passage followed a series of stops and starts—an indication that this legislation was nearly too rife with controversy to pass. But after a series of deals and calls from corporate executives, senators ultimately swallowed their criticism and accepted the measure. If this bill ends up passing both chambers of Congress, that means the White House can rush the TPP through to congressional ratification, with lawmakers unable to fully debate or even amend agreements that have been negotiated entirely in secret. On the plus side, all of these delays in the Senate has led other TPP partners to delay any further negotiations on the trade agreement until Fast Track is approved by Congress.

The above is another headline.

“First, such a bill would have to be drafted by someone. Second, who would vote for that if it cut off the purse strings to themselves. Very few I doubt.”

Yes—that point was in my thoughts as I wrote this. It is clear that the representatives of the citizenry are structurally in opposition to the interests of the citizenry. Not a good structure in this example and it might only be fixed if it were a Constitutional element or if state governments had greater influence.

Note, also, that this type of legislation would probably be supported by citizens regardless of political affiliation.

The TPA is NOT the TPP:

The TPP has not been passed. The TPA will allow the TPP to be considered for fast track (up/down approval), but the TPP hasn’t been voted on in any form.

One last try:

“According to TPP Chapter Summary, a book given to senators when they enter the secret room where the current draft of the treaty is housed, this commission would be governed the same way as the WTO, meaning that a two-thirds vote from country representatives could amend the agreement.

When Congress approves these treaties, it will be delegating its right to amend these treaties to the Commissions created by these treaties. When Sessions read the TPP treaty, he discovered that some countries have exempted themselves from treaty regulations, so he proposed an amendment that would exempt the United States.”

Notice that the TPP is called a “treaty”. I talked to a senator’s aide and he referred to it as a treaty. A treaty, according to the Constitution, requires a two-thirds Senate vote only.

All I said was that any trade deals could be debated before they were voted up or down by Congress. The article said there could be no debate and that is incorrect.

We all have a right to our opinion, but you need to stop accusing people of lying. I don’t work for anyone. Stop being so paranoid.
