The musician, who has campaigned for and written open letters to President Obama, began his rant in standard fashion, calling Republicans loathsome and linking to a Los Angeles Times article about NASA funding:

The struggle for/with young boys? ;)
This Moby song, “God moving over the face of the waters”, is fantastic. It was in the DeNiro/Pacino movie, “Heat”.

Yeah, the guy is an ahole, but talent is talent.
Who?
Oh, is he a drummer? Or a computer geek.
You could call him a music programmer. Seriously. A lot of electronic musicians program, more than play music physically.. Sequencers, MIDI, Etc. It’s no less ‘music’ when it comes out of the boxes, but it is a whole different method of getting there.
Enema...which is exactly like being the best clump in the septic tank.
I’m always amazed at these concerts where these crowds go nuts for some guy pushing a button, as if they are pulling off some kind of epic guitar solo.
Or what color/sex he was. Confused mofo.
FWIW: Moby is a direct descendant of Herman Melville.
Yeah, and it doesn't involve playing an instrument. Step sequencing is just a bunch of static button clicking...when you're done clicking, you let it run to see what it sounds like.
Then there's "loops"....basically stolen or borrowed off-the-shelf "music".
I do electronic music as a hobby (just for myself) and you should see the holy wars on the music boards over that statement.
Personally I’m with you. The fame and money an EDM DJ gets is insane. But there are willing to throw away $500 or more on a ticket. Ususlly from Dad or a trust fund.
That said, It evolved into being because Live bands are costly. The gear for DJs is also, but one man and his stuff were easier AND CHEAPER to deal with with for a club owner/promoter. Theat in turn led to Pay for play and music acts paying to play in venues. Rinse/repeat.
All the while there were less bands to go see and places to see them/more DJ gigs. You and I grew up in one world, modern kids/younger people grew up in another. They pay the prices and do the hero worship simply because they don’t KNOW anything else. It’s always been that way for them. We on the other hand had bar bands and the occasional real concert with live musicians. Today, even Nashville acts rely on a lot of playback to recreate the albums live.
TLDR...Moderns are used to it.
You just can’t make this stuff up!
But you would think that a Melville descendant might have at least some literary leanings. Oh, well.
Musicians can tell when a music programmer is being a music programmer. It sounds like rehearsals sounded back in junior high when we were learning to be musicians. It’s complexity is infantile and lacks discipline.
It has a place but like anything it often gets way overdone. The loops thing ... there is a HUGE industry catering to that crowd. It’s basically assembly music They even sell ‘construction kits’ that you can build like a puzzle.
Which is why most of us long for the musical past..
Hey Moby; Obie hears you loud and clear, or is it you who hears him...whatever same difference; Peas in a pod!
That’s not a candidate for mensa.
Densa perhaps.
Oh there’s LOTS of discipline. Thats the problem! Locked to the grid with ZERO manmade groove. Just at best, a preset on a sequencer/daw; or an MPC ‘groove’ or swing algo. Which is why it sounds so amateur and soulless a lot of the time.
That's exactly what they do. It's extremely effective. Our side should do the same.
