I did my 1 mile PT course in 8 min back in 65 and I was glad it was over .... 5 in 40 is 5 of those bad boys and I would have flunked ... I was 17, 5' 7", 130 lbs and I breezed through everything else
Probably my smoking did me in

Those physical requirements don’t seem to be particularly demanding.

Yeah, I think the 2 minute spec on that makes it harder than it sounds.

I was born when Eisenhower was president and I can do them now except the running. Fake hip, healing quad tendon rupture and broken back.

Six more female soldiers have qualified to attend Army Ranger School later this month after passing the same physical fitness standards as men, including six pull-ups, 49 push-ups in two minutes, 59 sit-ups in two minutes and a five-mile run in 40 minutes, Army officials said Wednesday. Yeah? How many rounds of ammo, grenades AND extra gear were they carrying when they did it?
If their squad mate gets shot, are they going wipe their brow, or carry them back to the aid station?

six pull-ups, 49 push-ups in two minutes, 59 sit-ups in two minutes and a five-mile run in 40 minutes,... That's it?!?!?!?
That would have been a weak enlisted person in my tank company back in the day.

It’s BS. The typical Army Ranger runs 5 miles in less than 30 minutes. I sincerely doubt any woman could pass without lowering the requirements. The graduation rate in 2011 was 42%, and students lose an average of 25-30 pounds during those two months.

How many rounds of ammo, grenades AND extra gear were they carrying when they did it? That will be sorted out at the school.
"About half of the candidates at Ranger School drop out, Jones said, and most of those who fail to
complete the course drop out in the first four days which includes the same physical fitness test as
the RTAC course.
One of the differences between RTAC and Ranger School is the length of the forced march. In RTAC,
it's six miles and in Ranger School it's 12 miles, Jones said.
At Ranger School, there will also be additional tests of physical and mental preparedness, and
numerous simulated combat patrols, Jones said."

If nothing else gets them gone, it'll be the Night Land Nav and/or the Swamp Phase.

But...but...I want to be a Ranger so they ought to let me in. This is microagression by the non disabled, heteronormative, White priveleged patriarchy. (Do I need the sarc tag?)

Yes, that is the pre-requisite PT, then there is a list of infantry tasks including a 12 mile ruck march in sub 3 hours with a fairly moderate kit load, all sorts of weapons tasks, first aid and such which must be certified by the owning unit. Then of course the first days at Benning include a nonstop make you die or quit physical assessment ( Darby Queen ring a bell?) A lot of attrition there, then about a 60% success rate for a non-recycle graduate (1st time go), about 50% of recycles make it subsequent classes- they jump in where they broke off for med or admin issues. Only one retest for a task failure, no option for integrity violations ( oh no, congress couldn’t attend!).
I broke a femur in the desert phase, in ‘85, had the option to return, never did- never healed quite right nor did I have the motivation to do that again!
