I did my 1 mile PT course in 8 min back in 65 and I was glad it was over .... 5 in 40 is 5 of those bad boys and I would have flunked ... I was 17, 5' 7", 130 lbs and I breezed through everything else

Probably my smoking did me in

Six more female soldiers have qualified to attend Army Ranger School later this month after passing the same physical fitness standards as men, including six pull-ups, 49 push-ups in two minutes, 59 sit-ups in two minutes and a five-mile run in 40 minutes, Army officials said Wednesday.

Yeah? How many rounds of ammo, grenades AND extra gear were they carrying when they did it?

If their squad mate gets shot, are they going wipe their brow, or carry them back to the aid station?

I think that “qualification” test is just to ensure you won’t drop dead right out of the gate. After that it gets much harder.

They’re qualified for ENTRY. That just means they can experience the abuse and hardship before flunking out.

The women are in excellent shape for women. But the 12 mile forced march with full pack , weapon and ammo separates the women from the girls.

The qualifications sound odd to me. The 6 pull ups is a joke but he push ups and situps sound moderately difficult. I did once know a guy who did 1000 situps very quickly to win a bet then asked if anyone else wanted to bet he couldn’t do 2000. There were no takers.

I was a terrible distance runner but the 5 mile jog doesn’t sound very hard at all.

That test is a spoonful relative to a gallon.

Ranger School has been described as “two months of no food and no sleep”.

Guys who finish Ranger school and go off to war say “Thank God ... at least I’m not in Ranger school anymore”.

Huh. Didn't realize that the Rangers had such an easy PT test. I'm almost 70 and I could still pass those requirements.

While I was still on active duty, the Marine Corps Physical Fitness test minimums were three pullups, 80 situps in two minutes and a three mile run under 28 minutes. Maxing the test was 20 pullups in 2 minutes, the 80 situps in two minutes and the three mile run 18 minutes or under.

It's ignorant and shameful to equate passing a simple physical test standard with combat. Combat requires killing people, living in horrible conditions and carrying a huge load of ammunition, water, and body armor while doing it. It is ridiculous to expect that women will be anything but a dangerous distraction to fighting men.

Why do females get to pick and choose?

There will never be true equality until every female in this country between the ages of 18 and 55 is forced to register with the Selective Service.

Maybe there wouldn’t be such a large percentage of females voting for the anti-military Democrats if they had to worry about getting their heads blown off.

Uhhh, I could do all the stuff to get in, and I'm 60. The question is surviving the actual course. Did they wimp that down?

In the press release, I noticed a typical weasel expression: "after passing the same physical fitness standards as men." It's irrelevant. What matters is whether they're pansi-fying the Ranger course. Is it the same entrance test the Rangers have always had—or did they make it easier so at last a girl could qualify? And will they put the ladies through the same course Rangers have always taken? I can't believe they plan to—otherwise, no females will pass, ever, and apparently we can't have that.

If they messed with the entrance test or the course this time around, it only proves the obvious: Females cannot do the job of elite soldiers. Or any soldiers.

Around 1962, President Kennedy was encouraging American kids to get into better shape. One idea was a 50 mile hike. Another was physical fitness tests. Those were good ideas even if they came from JFK.

Schools tested us on maybe 6 or 7 fitness events. I scored 100the percentile on every one except the 40 yard dash. Oddly that was by far my strongest event. I actually think the coach’s timing was off. I still scored 95th percentile on it.

Now I could not pass any of the Army standards. I am 68, overweight and in poor health. In my day tho I was good.
