Carjacking suspect dies after chase, striking pedestrian (but read the history)

Police say a burglary suspect being chased by police struck a pedestrian and then crashed his car.

Police say the man kicked in the door of a home and then shot at a woman during an attempted burglary on Alpine Drive in Roswell Tuesday afternoon.

They said the driver died Tuesday night.

Police identified him as 17-year-old Anthony Stokes of Decatur.

Stokes gained national attention when he was denied a heart transplant because of “a history of non-compliance.”

They said the pedestrian who was struck is Clementina Hernandez, 33, of Roswell.

“A lady said a person kicked in the door to break into the house. She was inside the living room and saw the suspect, who was wearing a mask,” said Lisa Holland, with the Roswell Police Department.

The suspect then took off. Police said a short time later, an officer saw the suspect and began to chase him down Alpharetta Highway.

“I couldn't believe that I was seeing something like that. I usually only see it on TV,” said witness Brett Dudley.

Dudley took cellphone video of the chase as the car lost control and then crashed into the pole in front of a SunTrust Bank at Hembree Road and Highway 9.

"He did a fishtail spin going around to the right and hit a pedestrian. I saw a white shirt fly up in the air,” said witness Claudia Kuklis.

That white shirt belonged to a woman who police say was walking along Hembree Road when the suspect came barreling through.

Hernandez was taken to North Fulton Hospital. She is stable in good condition.

Crews had to cut Stokes from his car, which was nearly cut in half by the pole. He was taken to a nearby hospital, where he died

BUT WAIT THERE'S MORE! (This from an older article)

Anthony Stokes, 15, received a heart transplant Tuesday night at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta, according to a family spokesman. Anthony is recovering and "doing great," Mark Bell said.

Anthony's case first attracted national attention when his family told media the hospital had denied him a spot on the heart transplant list. An August 7 letter from the hospital, which Bell provided to CNN, said that "Anthony is currently not a transplant candidate due to having a history of noncompliance, which is one of our center's contraindications to listing for heart transplant."

Noncompliance generally means that doctors doubt that a patient will take his medicine or go to follow-up appointments.

A week later, according to Bell, doctors reversed that decision and gave Anthony top priority on the transplant list.

...

Assessing compliance for potential transplant recipients is important because if a patient doesn't strictly take all required medicines as directed, he or she could die within weeks of leaving the hospital, said Dr. Ryan Davies, a cardiothoracic surgeon at the Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children in Wilmington, Delaware, who is not involved with this case.

But Bell said a doctor told the family that Anthony's low grades and time spent in juvenile detention factored into that assessment.

"The doctor made the decision that he wasn't a good candidate because of that," Bell said. "I guess he didn't think Anthony was going to be a productive citizen."

Anthony's mother, Melencia Hamilton, told CNN affiliate WGCL-TV that doctors said Anthony would have lived only three to six months if he hadn't gotten the heart transplant.

The Southern Christian Leadership Conference's Georgia chapter was involved in drawing media attention to Anthony's case because the organization has "a longtime relationship with the child," said the Rev. Samuel Mosteller, the chapter's president,

Mosteller said Anthony was judged based on "tattoos and an ankle bracelet" from a "juvenile agency." Bell said the detention was because Anthony got into "an altercation to protect his younger brother."

Another one of 0bama's sons (in case any of you had any doubt)

What is truly disgusting is that the hospital was clearly maumaued into taking a heart that could have gone to a productive citizen and giving it to a teen thug. Hearts don't grow on trees someone else died so that this POS could live and look what he did with he life.

I hope the "Reverend" Samuel Mosteller is proud of his work. But of course he probably is.

Disgusting

Another proud graduate from the Southern Christian Leadership Conference’s College of Thuggery. The doctors were right. They should not have caved to the Democrat media and wasted a good heart by giving it to a bad person.

Bell said the detention was because Anthony got into "an altercation to protect his younger brother."

Could it be that the altercation happened because his younger brother had stolen something and was getting the tar beat out of him and Anthony intervened? Just wondering...

what a waste of a human heart.
He only gained about 18 months with the heart so generously donated by some poor deceased person who donated the greatest of gifts. Life.

That is the worst aspect of this whole thing. Human hearts don't grow on trees. For this POS to live someone else on the transplant list had to die.

Way to go Southern Christian Leadership Conference, you’ve caused a heart that would otherwise have gone to a more deserving recipient to be diverted to a thug. The alternative heart transplant recipient (who most likely was/is black due to genetic matching prerequisites) very likely has died while waiting for a heart because of the scarcity of organ donations from the black American populace.

Bottom line? ...a wasted heart!

There are reports of the heart transplant recipient taking on characteristics of the donor.

I particularly recall one case where the kid who received a heart from a Mexican kid started craving burritos, something he'd never done before.

The world is a strange place sometimes...

He burgled someone, carjacked someone else, did a hit and run on a woman. He could have killed some people. The world is probably better without him in it.

“ He was a good boy. He had a bad heart, it came from a criminal and just ruined him. His new heart jus ruined him”.......

I’m not buying it. He was a “bad kid” before getting a new/replacement heart. Old habits, strongly programmed in his brain are still there, new heart or not. Had he gotten a new “brain”, perhaps he might have improved his life, instead, he just wasted it after someone else had to die so he could live. Good riddance!

What a waste of a heart.

There is always more demand for hearts than there is supply. For this POS to live someone else on the transplant recipient list had to die.

From the article Bell said. "I guess he didn't think Anthony was going to be a productive citizen

Well I guess the doctor who originally turned thug boy down for a transplant was proven to be right.
