House Republicans resist call to change course on DHS funding
The Hill ^ | 02/11/2015 | Rebecca Shabad and Cristina Marcos

A pair of GOP senators implored House Republicans Thursday to soften their stance in the intra-party dispute over funding the Department of Homeland Security.

Sens. Cory Gardner (R-Colo.) and Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.), who both formerly served in the lower chamber, stressed to the House GOP conference behind closed doors that the Senate can’t get the 60 votes it needs to advance the House-passed DHS funding bill that includes language to reverse President Obama's executive actions on immigration.

"They lamented the frustration they're having getting up to 60 votes. But apparently that is the strategy now with the Democrat minority is to block everything over there," Rep. John Fleming (R-La.) said after the meeting.

Despite the senators’ appeal to their former colleagues, House Republicans said their conference is sticking with the original strategy.

They told Gardner and Capito to tell Senate GOP leaders to keep trying to move the House-passed bill, Fleming said, despite three failed votes last week.

"Our message back to them ... we asked them to take this back, our bill is our bill. This is what we passed. This is what we expect you to pass. So get it done," Fleming said.

Aides said GOP leaders' message to rank-and-file members was clear: We're staying the course.

On Tuesday, however, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) said it's "obviously" up to the House now to send a different spending bill back to the Senate because Senate Democrats have repeatedly blocked the bill in the upper chamber.

Shut it down. It is not like DHS is actually securing the homeland anyways.

Okayyyy......so because the minority dems won't back down and reverse the invasion of the US, the majority Republicans are supposed to?

Only a traitor or an idiot would think that makes any sense. Close the government....just this time insist that the self-sufficient parks and monuments stay open. And defund AF1

Hmmm. It was my impression that appropriations couldn't be filibustered. Isn't that the way the rats got Obamacare passed? I must have something wrong.

Yes. You have it wrong.

Only conservative issues and agendas can be filibustered.

Progressive, socialist, or communist issues and agendas are totally filibuster-proofed.

McConnell is a piece of crap. And many of the Republicans in the Senate are garbage and will not do a damn thing to upset King Obams. Much of America has been destroyed by a out of control Federal communists controlled Government.

Budgetary bills can be forced through by simple majority under reconciliation.

This is an Appropriations (actual funding) bill, which is different. I don’t think reconciliation applies.

Why not just extend the “Reid Rule” to finance bills? Appropriation bills originate in the House, so it makes more sense than what Reid did. 51 votes and done.

Harry Reid - if her Senate GOP leader - would get the legislation approved by the Senate with 51 votes, but McConnel thinks he’ll be rewarded in heaven for not playing politics, not fighting for what his party wants, like Harry Reid did. He is dead wrong in thinking he improves the public image of the GOP or his conference in the Senate by playing nice the way the Democrats never do.

Clearly the DHS is complicit (up to it's ears) in aiding the illegal alien problem we have in the US. Why on earth should we tax payers sit back and keep allowing these corrupted bastards in DC that allows the DHS and the obozo administration to continue to tare apart this country by flooding it with those who have as much loyalty to our constitution and the US as those in DC have, which is none? Common sense will tell anyone that once the US is gone, its gone for good and if something doesn't change in DC and soon, for certain it will be gone by Jan 20, 2017.
