...its lowest levels against the dollar for almost a year, amid investor nervousness about emerging markets.
By evening trade in Istanbul the currency had fallen beyond TL2.30 to the US dollar, more than 1 per cent down on the day and the weakest level since January, when the Turkish central bank moved to increase interest rates -- a dramatic shift in policy that at the time halted a precipitous drop in its value.
...Turkey is far from alone in being affected by strong US economic data that has heightened expectations of a US Federal Reserve interest rate rise and so raised the prospect of fewer funds available for emerging markets...
"The parallel state is a pawn in the hands of international circles [IOW, he means the Jews] desiring the return of old Turkey," he added in comments quoted by the state-controlled Anadolu Agency.
The Turkish lira's fall became pronounced after Erdogan began his speech, in which he also labelled mass protests last year a "coup attempt", attacked what he said were Gulenist-supporting media groups and businesses and called for interest rates to be cut.
Indeed, since Turkey is a substantial oil importer, spending more than $55bn on energy imports last year, officials argue that the roughly 40 per cent decline in the price of Brent crude should substantially reduce the country's most notorious economic vulnerability -- its current account deficit -- as well boosting growth and helping reduce inflation.
But the country's reliance on relatively short term foreign funds -- an external borrowing requirement amounting to about a quarter of GDP -- may trump the oil card. A recent IMF report noted that now that the era of Fed QE is over, Turkey was in the invidious position of facing both sub-trend growth and high vulnerability to shocks.

Oh, and the source is wrong as well (it matches the photo link in both cases) — this is from the Financial Times blogs.
More specifically, the carry trade which is the number one effect of the Fed's easy money, creates booms and busts in pseudo capitalist countries like Turkey and they are now into the bust phase. Contrary to the Krudlow article posted here twice (so far) today, the dollar is not "King" because of U.S. economic strength or the dollar's reservist majesty. Rather the dollar is up because everything else is so down.
It’s crazy. Turkey is turning towards a Islamic state and the people (the majority atleast) aren’t fighting it.
Haha. Maybe there is hope for them in islamization. Haha. These whacky moozlums deserve what they get.
No sympathy for Erdogan.
He can go to hell.
It’s because of globull warming and Israel.
It's demographics. I spent two semesters as a visiting professor in Turkey. My colleagues on the faculty were fairly cosmopolitan. They had received their advanced degrees in either the US or Europe. Yes, they were Muslim, but they weren't fanatical about it.
However, they were having only 1 or 2 children. The peasants were having large families. For whatever reason, the "Ataturk Turks" committed race suicide. The let the Muslim fanatics outbreed them.
