Sources told FoxNews.com that Obama's dissatisfaction with Hagel, as well as a desire to shake up the cabinet following the devastating midterm elections, played a role in the president seeking Hagel's ouster.
Make no mistake, Secretary Hagel was fired, a senior U.S. official with close knowledge of the situation told Fox News.
This same official discounted Pentagon claims it was a mutual decision claiming President Obama has lost confidence in Hagel and that the White House had been planning to announce his exit for weeks.
The president felt he had to fire someone. He fired the only Republican in his cabinet. Who is that going to piss off that he cares about?"
In a swipe at the resume of Hagel, who served as U.S. Army sergeant in Vietnam and received two Purple Hearts, the official added, This is why you dont send a sergeant to do a secretarys job.

You lay down with mutts you shouldn’t be surprised when you get fleas.
It’s not a matter of giving a damn about them. It’s about me wanting them out of government so they no longer have power to harm our nation.
McCain has got to go. He’s the worst politician in our age, and include Obama in the mix.
With his seniority, has McCain said much about Obama’s actions? No. Many of them he would have done himself.
What he does do, is run interference for Obama, because when criticizing Obama, people can point to McCain and say, “Well, Republicans wanted to do that too.”
The sooner people like these are out of government, the sooner our nation can begin to heal.
Obama’s falling apart as his dreams of Marxist empire come crashing down about his great ears.
Hagel is a Republican?? s/
If you’re talking about people lying down with McCain, I couldn’t agree more.
“Aw, Ted and I are old friends.”
His face practically cracks he smiles so big when sitting next to Hillary.
His McCain/Kennedy bill would have achieved what Obama just did, and much worse. That would have had the power of law behind it. Obama will achieve what he has by people simply taking a pass on objecting legally.
Obama announcement: Hagels service as SoD has been exemplary.
[So, I am firing him.]
The timing is just too odd. There is more to it.
That pretty pathetic of the administration. I though Hagel has plenty of faults, but there are scores of people that need to be fired before him. But then again, this was the ONLY Republican in the administration. And I am sorry, Hagel was a Senator for crying out loud; heck there have been people who served as secretary who never served in the military, so this piling on by liberals is a joke. I fear that we are going to get a real wrecking ball nominee now.
I’m no fan of Hagel, but he wasn’t the cause of Obama’s dismal performance—not even close. But, he probably wasn’t more than an empty suit either.
When it comes down it may land on some of us. Obama is going to get more of us killed.
Hagel was an effin idiot anyway.
We were going back to Iraq no matter what.
Problem is now were are going to lose more men than necessary as we finally get around to a SOFA or maybe with a small “a”, leaving the larger issue for the next administration.
This administration will not get around to signing an actual SOFa, because they believe they can just manage ISIS or what is just another franchise of Al Qaeda.
What do you mean, the timing is just right for a last minute book release for Christmas.
0bama’s incompetence picked Hagel.
Sounds like we shouldn't send a community organizer to do a President's job.
” This is why you dont send a sergeant to do a secretarys job.
No, this is why you don’t send a community organizer to do a president’ job.
That’s what happens when you’re an executive and your boss is a dictatorial retart.
My only surprise was Hagel did not announce he was “stepping down to spend more time with his family”.
Hagel may be an idiot, but he made the mistake of opposing Obama a couple of times (one on Obama’s “junior varsity” comment about ISIS) and that’s why he’s got to go. Obama picked Hagel because he thought Hagel was so stupid and incompetent that he wouldn’t dare oppose him...but even Hagel realized that the “smartest man in the room” was actually the dumbest, most ignorant.
Then, John, don’t work with democrats DUUUURRRR HUUURRRR.
