Just days after the taking Chicken McNuggets off its menu in the light of the China food scandal, McDonalds Japan has unveiled a brand new, rather unusual product: Tofu Shinjo Nuggets and Ginger Sauce, a combination of bean curd, fish and vegetables shaped into bite-size pieces and deep-fried.
Turning to tofua food that has long been a favourite in Japan and known for its health benefitsis certainly a wise move, and McDonalds is undoubtedly in need of something new to entice customers back with, but while weve no doubt all craved deep-fried chicken at some point in our lives, wed hazard a guess that very few have ever longed for a box of tofu nuggets at the end of a night on the town.
Curious cats that we are, we headed over to our local McDonalds to grab a few boxes of the new nuggets. Join us...to find out how they taste...

I like tofu
In Korea it is traditional to give someone who just got out of jail tofu.

I miss Fish McDippers, which I only saw in Japan. They came with a sweet wasabi sauce.
I once tasted tofu. Emphasis on the word “once”.
The chicken on a bamboo stick is “Yakitori”, literally roast bird. Great snack food and the key is the marinade, basically soy sauce, honey, and sake in equal proportions. Boneless chicken thigh meat works best as it has more flavor and won’t dry out like breast meat. I sometimes grill a bunch over charcoal along with Korean bulgogi marinade beef strips on sticks. Little pieces of onion, split garlic cloves, and fresh ginger in between the pieces of meat make them like miniature Asian shish kebabs.
It’ll make your boobs bigger..
Lumpia are egg rolls made to Philippine specs.
The Lumpia made by the Public Works Center at the US Naval Base Subic Bay were magnificently fantastic and unequaled by any in the USA. Said lumpia were more like spring rolls.
Yummmm....... I can taste them now
Filipinos by pass the Friday ban on meat by eating Balut. Balut are unhatched baby chicks that are meat but legally eggs. I never consumed Balut
Balut, now that is some truly skanky looking stuff. You say it’s a quasi substitute for meat? I’ve seen them and it’s all beak, eyeballs, and soggy hair/feathers. What meat? No thanks.
Silky chicken is in the same category. Humans aren’t supposed to eat animals with indigo black skin.
I knew they used a marinade tho I didn’t know what it was. Anyone could cook pieces of chicken over a grill and it would be good but this was unusually good.
They were capable of pranks too. One little Japanese girl, as cute as she could be played the piano and they sang a couple of Japanese songs. Very impressive. Then a girl introduced the next song as an ancient song sacred to all Japanese.
We all sat their in anticipation then they started singing “Gilligan’s Island”.
I actually know how to use there and their correctly but for some reason I often type it wrong and the spell checker obviously doesn’t catch it.
No one ever tastes tofu; it has no taste.
(Yes, I know what you meant :> )
I don’t even have moons yet.
BTW, the “fermented “ tofu is fine. Good to cook with too.
Tofu is a substitute and must be treated as such, and the flavor comes not from the Tofu but from that which it is cooked in.... or prepared with. Tofu should be the chameleon in the dish.
One must be serious about weight loss, being a vegetarian, or looking to eat more healthy to stick with Tofu over the long haul.
I used to really like stirfried garlic broccoli with tofu and chocolate tofu pie before I gave up soy products due to a health issue. It is surprizing the foods with soy in them. Even foods one would not expect may have some.
Yes, SOY was considered to be so good for us, and now we find out...not so much.
Same with flax. :(
