The chicken on a bamboo stick is “Yakitori”, literally roast bird. Great snack food and the key is the marinade, basically soy sauce, honey, and sake in equal proportions. Boneless chicken thigh meat works best as it has more flavor and won’t dry out like breast meat. I sometimes grill a bunch over charcoal along with Korean bulgogi marinade beef strips on sticks. Little pieces of onion, split garlic cloves, and fresh ginger in between the pieces of meat make them like miniature Asian shish kebabs.

I knew they used a marinade tho I didn’t know what it was. Anyone could cook pieces of chicken over a grill and it would be good but this was unusually good.

They were capable of pranks too. One little Japanese girl, as cute as she could be played the piano and they sang a couple of Japanese songs. Very impressive. Then a girl introduced the next song as an ancient song sacred to all Japanese.

We all sat their in anticipation then they started singing “Gilligan’s Island”.
