I am confused. I thought that all Governors had the power to deploy the National Guard within their state. I do recall JFK federalizing the Alabama Guard to compel George Wallace. But, that was an exceptional case.

I thought the National Guard was called out by the governor. Do we have a federal National Guard?

And what would they do? Start shooting children?

If 0 sends the National Guard, it will merely be to hasten the dispersal of the illegals throughout our nation so they will be harder to rid ourselves of.

Repel at the border.

Obama and moochie have been using their daughters to politicize their “minimum wage” desires, saying want them to “go to work” for a taste of the real world”.

Well, here’s the perfect opportunity...send the girls to the border to care for the disease-ridden children. Baby-sitting is the perfect “first job” for the girls.

Oh, wait...it’s just OUR kids he wants to expose these plagues to...

Something is odd here. I think only the governor can call out the National Guard is his state.

Remember how Bush got blamed because the National Guard was not deployed quickly enough for hurricane Katrina? Then it was quitly revealed that a president cannot call up the Guard until the govenor declares a state of emergency (or something similar)?

My depth of knowledge on the subject is shallow but.....

I guess money is the root problem

If the Governor orders the guard out, the state pays

If the President orders the guard out the Feds pay

El-Presidente won't do it. He advertised this in the other countries, and coordinated with Mexico for passage through there. He's a community agitator, thus he thrives on chaos; it creates opportunities he can exploit. That is just what he does.

I'm in the same boat. I always thought that the governors handled it. Federal troops aren't allowed to be deployed in the U.S.

GWB was absolutely despicable for not building the wall - especially after the 9-11 attacks.

I have been wondering the same thing. It seems like I remember the National Guard being called out by the governor (after hurricanes for instance), yet it seems I remember George W. Bush threatening the governor of Louisiana with calling out the National Guard before/after Hurricane Katrina if she didn't begin preparations. There were Guard members at the Orlando International Airport after 9/11. Wikipedia says of the Florida National Guard:

“The United States Constitution charges the National Guard with dual federal and state missions. Ordinarily under the control of the state government (in which the governor is the commander-in-chief) pursuant to Title 32 of the United States Code, National Guard troops may also be called into active federal service with the United States Army or the United States Air Force (in which the president serves as commander-in-chief) and deployed world-wide with their active duty Army and Air Force counterparts.

The Florida National Guard, like those of other states, provides trained and equipped units for prompt mobilization in case of war or national emergency. Guardsmen may take part in functions ranging from limited actions in non-emergency situations to full-scale law enforcement (martial law) in cases when the governor determines that ordinary law enforcement officials can no longer maintain civil control. The state mission assigned to the National Guard is ‘to provide trained and disciplined forces for domestic emergencies or as otherwise provided by state law.’

The Florida National Guard serves as the state's ‘defense force.’”

"I am confused. I thought that all Governors had the power to deploy the National Guard within their state. I do recall JFK federalizing the Alabama Guard to compel George Wallace. But, that was an exceptional case. "

Most governors can call up and deploy their state Militia, but since Wallace the courts had ruled that the national Guard is NOT the Militia. Most recently in Maine, the Governor was out of the loop when the feds decided to move Maine's 113rd Engineers, and move into the state an out of state infantry.

Here is how Maine's current Constitution reads, concerning the Militia, proving that the Natl Guard is not the Militia in Maine.

Article Five Section 7.  Commander in chief.  The Governor shall be commander in chief of the army and navy of the State, and of the militia, except when the same are called into the actual service of the United States.

Perry needs to find some manhood and secure the borders of Texas. The same with NM, Arizona and Caliphony governors.

Last night, Obama...the senator from Arizona ?, other pundits, Perry, they all claimed landowners didn’t want a fence/wall. Sorry, but if the border is federal land, then land owners have no say about the looks of the fence/wall. MR. PRESIDENT... PUT UP THE DAMN WALL!!!

Perry is a Republican. Which, I’m guessing, means he won’t even scratch his ass unless he got approval from Caliph Hussein. Typical spineless Republican milksop. He won’t do what is necessary to preserve the republic and uphold the law.

That must have bee the moment when everyone on Obama’s side of the table laughed uncontrollably.

The first thing the governor should do is visit the border himself with an army of videographers and photographers to document just who is coming across and how many and under what circumstances — and then station them there.

This he can do and should have done — yesterday.

If the Governor mobilizes the National Guard , then the state pays. If the President mobilizes the National Guard, the federal government pays.

If it’s an issue of money, I am sure that Perry can solve the problem with some leadership. First, visit the border and get lots of video of what is going on. Second, get on TV and YouTube and Facebook and explain that Obama created the problem and refuses to fix it. Then call for volunteers and deputize them all as state officers and let them be armed. You will have tens of thousands of people show up. The media will scream bloody murder and Obama will call up the guard in a heartbeat. If not, then several tens of thousands of Texans will be guarding our borders.

We are already paying for a huge federal law enforcement presence. Go to a VA Hospital. They have federal law enforcement. Go to the Social Security office. They have federal law enforcement. Go to a National Park or federal forest. They have federal law enforcement. Send them to the Rio Grande Valley. We are already paying them. Obama could keep everyone out of the monuments and parks when he wanted to, but he can’t close down the Rio Grande Valley with all the federal law enforcement available? Baloney. He’s incompetent or lying and probably both.
