I think you're right however I do recall that Eisenhower "federalized" the Arkansas National Guard to integrate Little Rock schools. In addition he also sent about 1,000 troops from the 101st Airborne Division.

So it's not like it hasn't been done.

"I am confused. I thought that all Governors had the power to deploy the National Guard within their state. I do recall JFK federalizing the Alabama Guard to compel George Wallace. But, that was an exceptional case. "

Most governors can call up and deploy their state Militia, but since Wallace the courts had ruled that the national Guard is NOT the Militia. Most recently in Maine, the Governor was out of the loop when the feds decided to move Maine's 113rd Engineers, and move into the state an out of state infantry.

Here is how Maine's current Constitution reads, concerning the Militia, proving that the Natl Guard is not the Militia in Maine.

Article Five Section 7.  Commander in chief.  The Governor shall be commander in chief of the army and navy of the State, and of the militia, except when the same are called into the actual service of the United States.

Perry needs to find some manhood and secure the borders of Texas. The same with NM, Arizona and Caliphony governors.

Last night, Obama...the senator from Arizona ?, other pundits, Perry, they all claimed landowners didn’t want a fence/wall. Sorry, but if the border is federal land, then land owners have no say about the looks of the fence/wall. MR. PRESIDENT... PUT UP THE DAMN WALL!!!

Perry is a Republican. Which, I’m guessing, means he won’t even scratch his ass unless he got approval from Caliph Hussein. Typical spineless Republican milksop. He won’t do what is necessary to preserve the republic and uphold the law.

That must have bee the moment when everyone on Obama’s side of the table laughed uncontrollably.

The first thing the governor should do is visit the border himself with an army of videographers and photographers to document just who is coming across and how many and under what circumstances — and then station them there.

This he can do and should have done — yesterday.

Governor Rick Perry told Hannity yesterday that he has used the Texas National Guard and it worked. Texas is running out of money protecting its border. The problem is it is very expensive and he wants the federal National Guard with the federal funding.

The border is a Federal matter.

It is also a state matter. Texas has every right to protect its citizens from invasion if the fed gov refuses to do the job required of it.

You do not know the situation in Texas. Governor Perry has spent millions using Texans tax money to fight the border situation. Texas is running out of money and would like the Feds to do their part. It is their responsibility.

The amount of money we are spending on patrolling/capturing/detaining/processing/releasing; the amount of money that it has cost America for 12 million illegals to be running roughshod over America; the astronomical amounts of money we will spend over the next decade just putting a Band-Aid on this crisis; we could build a fence/wall around the world. I just don’t get it! (shaking head) Are we stupid? Am I just not seeing the problem that is stopping us from putting up a “triple” fence wall and manning it 24/7 until the flow of illegals stops?

“Texas is running out of money and would like the Feds to do their part. It is their responsibility.”

Of course it is the Federal Government’s responsibility, but unfortunately the treasonous criminals who are running our Federal Government are the ones who have deliberately orchestrated the collapse of our border.

If Obama deploys the National Guard it will be to make sure there are clear bilingual signs in Mexico directing illegals to the border and to make sure there are plenty of diapers and snacks.

WOW, AND I thought I was cynical... That said, you’re right. There’s probably lots of skim involved with ‘caring’ for these innocent children.

If the Governor mobilizes the National Guard , then the state pays. If the President mobilizes the National Guard, the federal government pays.

If it’s an issue of money, I am sure that Perry can solve the problem with some leadership. First, visit the border and get lots of video of what is going on. Second, get on TV and YouTube and Facebook and explain that Obama created the problem and refuses to fix it. Then call for volunteers and deputize them all as state officers and let them be armed. You will have tens of thousands of people show up. The media will scream bloody murder and Obama will call up the guard in a heartbeat. If not, then several tens of thousands of Texans will be guarding our borders.

We are already paying for a huge federal law enforcement presence. Go to a VA Hospital. They have federal law enforcement. Go to the Social Security office. They have federal law enforcement. Go to a National Park or federal forest. They have federal law enforcement. Send them to the Rio Grande Valley. We are already paying them. Obama could keep everyone out of the monuments and parks when he wanted to, but he can’t close down the Rio Grande Valley with all the federal law enforcement available? Baloney. He’s incompetent or lying and probably both.

It's not an issue of money. As of December 2013, the balance of the "rainy day fund" was over $8 billion.

Perry doesn't realize that he blew his chance for the nomination by not sending Texas National Guard troops to help secure the border.

Now the rest of the country knows why we call him "Governor Goodhair".

“The border is a Federal matter.”
It’s a nation crisis and when the feds are in on the scam and do nothing-then it’s a matter for all citizens.
