Hillary Clinton is doing it. Glenn Beck did it too. And Dick Cheney? Not so much.
This is the season for admitting you were wrong on Iraq in 2003. And all Republicans who either regret their vote to authorize the invasion of Iraq, or who were silent on foreign policy matters back then, should take this occasion to step up and say they'll never make the same mistake twice. To them I say: Do it for the sake of your conscience, and if not that, at least for the sake of your career.
In the Obama years, Republicans have habituated themselves to being noncommittal on policy questions. They are for cutting the budget, somehow. They are for repealing ObamaCare and replacing it with, well, something. They want tax reform, but let's not get into the details now.
In some ways, this makes political sense. Don't give your opponents targets to hit. But the damage that has been done to the Republican brand on foreign policy is not repairing itself. Obama's faults and flubs in that area aren't giving the GOP an advantage either.
So say it loud and proud: Iraq is a mess. We helped to make it that way. But we have no business putting American treasure, honor, and lives between ISIS and Nouri al-Maliki.
There's no better time than now, when the die-hard hawks are urging "re-engagement." Some of you were not in national politics at the time. South Carolina's Mark Sanford once said that he was against "preemptive war." Now that he's back in Congress, he should take the occasion to shout that out.

With forces in Afghanistan & Iraq, we could monitor and do even more with the main sponsor of so much evil, Iran. Geography, another lost art. Obambi is empowering most of freedom’s enemies.
I admit I was wrong. I thought after 9/11 the left wouldn’t stab us in the back so thoroughly. I also didn’t appreciate how closely they are getting to Muslim Brotherhood and other jihad organizations.
We were wrong, because we didn’t expect that the democrats would use it to elect a guy who was incompetent and would destroy everything we won, and leave things worse.
Oh wait, Obama has done that in MULTIPLE countries, not just Iraq. He didn’t need Bush’s help to screw up Libya and Syria, or Ukraine.
BULLSHIT!
A lack of a global vision and political commitment to see this till the end is what lost this for us.
So now that Obama has intentionally lost Iraq and Saddam’s WMD’s have been found, NOW those who wanted an invasion should admit THEY were wrong? That’s funny.
Mmmm. Gas plant?
We were wrong that Democrats and Communists gave a damn about “war crimes”, they let Sec. of State Hillary Clinton crow about getting a POW named Momar Gaddafi tortured and murdered “WE came, WE saw, HE DIED!!!”. Also the current foreign “insurgency” is committing war crimes on their rampage into Iraq without Leftard protest about human rights or imperialism.
No, it is not our fault that the Obama administration is incompetent and just sat there and did nothing while the terrorists gathered strength and continued to do nothing when they launched their assault and took over major cities and significant territory. All of this that is happening is the result of Obama’s policies.
Except for the fact it had been won.
That is a blatant lie. He never came out for gay marriage, he stated that he was against those wanted to kill gays.
You Beck haters are really pathetic.
Pretty much the truth.
Never. That’s my point.
“Yes, the republicans should admit they were wrong about the Iraq war when the democrats admit they were wrong about zero.”
The RATS demanded a new vote on the Iraq resolution so they could vote FOR the war, they almost immediately began undermining the war effort to insure a Bush loss. The war would have gone differently if the RAT party didnt turn traitor.
The reason for the war was to rid the world of Saddam Hussein.
Once he is gone, there can be change. The current change is the sorting out of lots of old scores. It is not only necessary but desirable.
The new fertile crescent is actually an Iranian Containment Zone. Iran is being squeezed. Iranian Kurds will be lost if not in reality, in spirit to the new Kurdish free zone that extends in practice if not reality into Turkey.
Syria is disabled as the dirty working surrogate. Absent Syria, Hezbollah and Hamas are weakened. The pressure on Israel is diminished.
The fruit basket turnover is by design, it is good, it takes time, decades even to regather .
The prosperity of the Gulf can grow and encompass a greater area of the region.
Here's a novel idea. If these finger-pointers were sincere, they'd prop up Assad, work with the new dictator in Egypt, work with Putin to get the Nazi element out of Ukraine, call a "time out" from Saudi/EU/US/global interest, and eliminate ISIS from the planet before this rogue terrorist group destroys global civilization.
I'm fed up with the finger pointing about Iraq. Just about nobody except Ron Paul and Dennis Kucinich got it right, with passion. Instead, work together to get it correct today and stop propping up "freedom fighters" to destroy govs. And get rid of the ISIS cancer.
Then the pols can go back to their usual level of stupidity and bowing to their global masters.
JMHO
The Tsarnov brothers weren’t a “serious act of terror”?
Liberal rats ignore that the war was pretty much over until Obama lost it. I was there in 2011. Baghdad was pretty quiet at the time.
I was not in favor of the war, because I knew the peace would be lost by a liberal administration. I’m also not in favor of fighting the UN’s wars.
That being said, once we had conquered Iraq we should have occupied the country as a counterpoint to the bad actors (at the time Syria and Iran). Iraq was strategically placed for us to moderate the middle east.
Obama knew this and that is why he felt he must remove the US presence. That and his other actions have enabled a modern caliphate to become organized. Obama’s goal IMHO.
