President Obama is taking a swipe at the Founding Fathers, blaming his inability to move his agenda on the disadvantage of having each state represented equally in the Senate.
At a Democratic fundraiser in Chicago Thursday night, Mr. Obama told a small group of wealthy supporters that there are several hurdles to keeping Democrats in control of the Senate and recapturing the House. One of those problems, he said, is the apportionment of two Senate seats to each state regardless of population.
Obviously, the nature of the Senate means that California has the same number of Senate seats as Wyoming. That puts us at a disadvantage, Mr. Obama said.
The Founding Fathers decided in the Great Compromise in 1787 to apportion House seats based on population and give each state two seats in the Senate regardless of population. The solution was a compromise between large states and small states in a dispute that nearly dissolved the Constitutional Convention.
The president also blamed demographics for the inability of the Democratic Party to gain more power in Congress, saying Democrats tend to congregate a little more densely in cities such as New York and Chicago. He said it gives Republicans disproportional clout in Congress.
So there are some structural reasons why, despite the fact that Republican ideas are largely rejected by the public, its still hard for us to break through, Mr. Obama said.
He also said Democrats suffer from the congenital disease of not voting in midterm elections.

This is undeniable proof Obama does not even know how America was founded: We are a nation made up of individual states. We are not simply one big country.
The Confederacy was correct on this one.
“This is undeniable proof Obama does not even know how America was founded:”
Do you really think that the problem here is Obama’s ignorance?
If I wanted to demolish my house I would have to hire an expert on construction to make sure this was done properly. Those who want to demolish America’s constitution have also engaged the services of an expert.
The founders had the Obamanation in mind when when they set up checks and balances throughout organization the republic, not just the congress. And quite intentionally these get in the way of would-be dictators.
Sounds to me like Barry is advocating an over throw. This is like a dog whistle to his supporters. Go for it Barry, you and your legions of leaches verses the producers and workers. I will have a front seat in that battle and we can settle this once and for all times.
Can I call out Obama on a demagogic statement?
He’s saying the GOP has been rejected by the public. How so?
Most of our state governors are Republicans. A majority of state legislatures are controlled by Republicans. Republicans control the House.
DEmocrats control the Senate and White House.
How, by any objective standard, can anybody say that the public has rejected the Republicans, when Republicans control so many areas of government around the country???
Yet the lap dog media will report this as gospel, and will find its way into MSNBC talking points, that the GOP is a fringe minority party.
The GOP is marginalized on the Upper West Side, but there are many places in America where the Republican party is alive and well.

Sure Mr. President, the gridlock that keeps you from ruling like a monarch. Sort of a checks and balances thingy we bitter clingers cherish.
He.s a Constitutional Genius.
Yes, and it was those damned Founding Fathers that gave us a constitution of “negative liberties” (for the government), too. Other than giving us the greatest nation on earth, what have they done for us since then?
So he wants a one party government? He would be wiser to learn how to work with the other party ... like Clinton had to do with Newt. Our government set up checks and balances for a reason.
Only proves he believes in “Dictator”.
‘One of those problems, he said, is the apportionment of two Senate seats to each state regardless of population’
Yes, it was an INTENTIONAL inclusion to prevent the idiot masses and fascist CIC from ruining this great country.
The 17th Amendment already screwed up the original intent of the Founders regarding Senators and probably insured that no President will ever be truly removed from office.
I could make a similar complaint that Rhode Island gets as many senators as Texas...
Funny it’s all seemed to work until obama got in office..
Must be the racism thing, right?
These same “problems” he is always going on about are part of the reason idiots like him and his party can control the Senate, the Executive branch, and the Judiciary. It really cuts both ways.
