Rob Gray and his brother-in-law said they were walking down River Street enjoying the sites with their families when they were confronted by a man. Then, a mob attacked them.
I took a punch to my eye and cracked my orbital, said Gray.
I was grabbed by the back of my head at a full run and he smashed my head into the car and I hit the ground, said Jim Thomas. "This was a violent, malicious attack on a family of eight people."
Thomas says the attackers went after his wife as well.
"There was a man holding her by the nape of her neck, with her hair and dragging her," said Thomas.
And even his daughter was attacked.
"My 6-year-old daughter was punched in the stomach by an adult," he said.
The men say they didnt see an officer for more than 20 minutes after the attack.

I’m sure that 911 phone-call-tax is in the Obamacare Health Regulations somewhere. Can’t make the call, if you don’t pay for it with some tax.
“Objecting when a couple push through your family and shove the children is hardly starting a confrontation.
It is escalating the event.”
Escalating the event? ? ?
Only if one is a dhimmi in a Muslim land!
Protecting and standing up for ones family is a Natural Law Right, with origins far back in time. Even a bear is allowed to protect its cubs, as the National Park Service said when they did not kill a bear that attacked a visiting couple in Yellowstone.
Are you suggesting that parent had less right to defend his children than a mere bear?
PURCHASE A RELIABLE 14 ROUND SEMI-AUTOMATIC PISTOL, LEARN HOW TO PROPERLY USE IT, SPEND A FEW HOURS AT THE RANGE, GET YOUR CONCEALED CARRY PERMIT, AND DEVELOP SITUATION AWARENESS, ESPECIALLY WHEN IN STRANGE SURROUNDINGS WITH YOUR FAMILY.
There is going to be a lot more of this sort of thing due to the criminal lawlessness of the current administration and their virtual encouragement of the entitlement mentality the street thugs use to justify THEIR lawlessness.
My short video (the link to which I'll post below) might help you understand why this stuff happens and keep you out of another of these situations.
BTW, what race were these folks? I assume the cops put that information in their report as it might make it a bit easier to locate and arrest them. (Forgive me for being "racist".)
If you choose to NOT defend yourself, you can print up a few of these cards to carry during your next family outing. Perhaps pinning one to your shirt will help.
WHY DO THEY WANT OUR GUNS? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j73SsNFgBO4
NOOOO! Some of obozo’s kids no doubt!
There is a housing project directly across from the River area, near the Comfort Inn. My son and I both carried knives when we went to River St.
I didn’t realize it was in front of Wet Willies. Not my type of place, but harmless and very popular with lots of tourists. Is the waterfront getting invaded by less friendly folk?
That unfortunately happened when Jacksonville tried to redevelop its waterfront. Jax is on a huge, beautiful river, and when they started the redevelopment program, they built a very nice mall along the river. Unfortunately, they decided it should not be “elitist” and should “appeal to the locals” and have sneaker stores, rap music and things like that, and pretty soon, everybody else was driven out by the “locals” and the stores closed, except for some that stayed open during the day to attract business people in the area.
But the “locals” were loosely named - most locals in Jax of whatever color are decent, civilized people, and why black street thugs should be considered the most typical locals, I never understood. Decent black people never went there in the evening either, btw.
I think this is changing, but I still want to know who thinks the worst of the black population is the most representative. They’re not.
If you are carrying a weapon and turn an argument, no matter how rude the aggressor was, into a deadly force confrontation, yes you have escalated the event. Is it right, doesn’t matter, it is the law, at least here in Texas.
“

It has nothing AT ALL to do with rights. Never pick a fight that you have not already won. What you are suggesting is the thought process of a road rager. He feels he was “disrespected” and aims to seek some kind of apology. Bad decision on the road, far worse if you are in public with your family.
Be a man and apologize first to diffuse the situation. If this happened to you, you were already singled out and set up for a beat down. Take the bait if you want, but it will not end well for you, your wire, or your kids.
That's a common practice, walking "thru" you and forcing you to step aside.
Several years back a similar situation happened to me at my local Meijer store. I was walking a main aisle way with a hand basket full of foodstuff when I saw three black girls coming from the opposite direction, laughing and joking with no cart and no baskets.
As they approached, they kept angling towards me in an attempt to force me against the food shelves in order to allow them to pass by. It didn't work out as they planned.
Since I was as far right as I could go against the shelving, I swung my hand basket back and brought it forward to clobber the knee of the gal that was closest and about to brush me. That sent off a wail and after apologizing, I went on my way..........
The PD does have an LGBT liaison. Perhaps they need to have a TOURIST-crime-victim liaison?
Well good for you, it's always nice to know we have Rambo in our midst, lord knows, we have many around here.......
Armed citizen and situational response are cool terms.... and the advantage of armchair hind site will save you every time.........
Nothing would have helped this family other than an on site police presence..........
I can’t vouch for everyone else, but I can tell you that quick thinking and good training can save your arse. I’ve been down that road more times than I can count. No, it’s not because I look for trouble, it’s because I see people in trouble, and I am not the type to not act. Not everybody is an armchair general or whatever you mean. I refuse to be a victim, I’ve been tested a lot, and one day I may fail. If I fail though that means I was still trying.
First rule of CCW, collateral damage.............you don't shoot at anyone when there is a danger of hitting someone else............
I have, up to now, not be likened to a ‘road rager” - live and experience, I suppose.
Lawerly obfuscations aside, allow me to analyze what you posted.
“Be a man and apologize first to diffuse the situation. If this happened to you, you were already singled out and set up for a beat down. Take the bait if you want, but it will not end well for you, your wire, or your kids.”
1. “Be a man and apologize first to diffuse the situation.”
May I inquire as to when an apology to an attacker does any good, or which moral, ethical or religious system supports cowering before an unjustified attack?
2. “If this happened to you, you were already singled out and set up for a beat down.”
My point being made by you - ignoring the provication/intended attack will do nothing but encourage the predator, true for Urban Ferals as for four legged predators.
3. “Take the bait if you want, but it will not end well for you, your wire, or your kids.”
When an attack is starting, cowering does nothing for the intended victim. Gunfire does.
Please not, your snark about “road rage” aside, no one has the right to attack a man and his family. Not even Urban Feral blacks.
Assume the best possible situation as an attempt to see these black attackers in the best light - if the white families were blocking the side walk and the blacks wanted to move through the family ahead of them, all the blacks had to do was say “Excuse me, we would like get by.”
If you are suggesting that expecting standard American mannerly behavior is something whites can’t expect of blacks, then I must disagree.
Those who would trash American societal norms, normalize ‘ghetto behavior patterns’ and attack a man and his family members, run the risk of historic, legal, and moral responses.
Perhaps you are confusing ‘road rage’ with ‘right behavior’?
;-)
One of the two brothers-in-law was an ex-Army Ranger.
So much for military training in situations such as this, eh?
I do. Been there three times, twice for St. Patrick's Day parades. When Mrs. JimRed and I came up behind slow moving larger groups of folks or those just milling around on River Street I'd just say "excuse me" and gently push through. Sounds like the assailant forgot the "excuse me" and gentle parts.
Doesn’t have to be a black person. Any stranger I always seek to avoid confrontation unless I’m forced to physically defend myself. You just don’t know who it is and what their capable of.
Doesn’t mean you have to be a chicken shit, but just little things like don’t mumble curse words at them or admonish them about bumping into you. Even more so when you’re carrying.
Stand your ground or not, somebody bumps into you, you call them an angry name and they start pushing you around, then you take out your gun and shoot ‘em, you’re going to be guilty.
Don’t invite trouble and tragedy in your life.
The attack started after the victim reacted aggressively to the bumping. Yes, he took the bait.
Had he apologized for his child or whatever getting in the man’s way, nothing would have happened, except losing a little face.
I have been in this very situation many times, and have yet to get in a fight. I have a couple of hot headed acquaintances that can’t seem to avoid a fight when this happens, one (happened in his 30s) gets to take his teeth out now when he sleeps as he learned what a curb sandwich is.
Our cities belong to the mobs now. There is no “justice” just “just us”. Forget right and wrong. Don’t forget Tryvonne was right and Z man was wrong as far as our society is concerned.
I hope to God you do not CCW i n Ga with the mindset you claim to have. Your position of pushing a street confrontation to a deadly force confrontation because you “have rights” is exactly what the gun grabbers want to see.
If this guy had killed someone after escalating the confrontation via his remarks, he would be found guilty of manslaughter or worse.
“An armed society is a polite society” . In this instance had the victim been polite instead of aggressive when bumped, he likely would not have gotten his beatdown.
