TRES RIOS, Costa Rica (AP) On a warm spring day, Floribeth Mora was in her bed waiting to die from a seemingly inoperable brain aneurysm when her gaze fell upon a photograph of Pope John Paul II in a newspaper.
"Stand up," Mora recalls the image of the pope saying to her. "Don't be afraid."
Mora, her doctors and the Catholic Church say her aneurysm disappeared that day in a miracle that cleared the way for the late pope to be declared a saint on April 27 in a ceremony at the Vatican where Mora will be a guest of honor.

According to scripture, all believers are saints. So if he confessed Jesus Christ as the son of God and his savior he already is - and you are, or can be, as well!
There are no “certified” miracles.
Christ acted through Him.
God doesn’t certify them.
No where in Scripture is there a certifying body.
Peter walked down the street and as his shadow fell on people they were healed.
Today, we have “miracles lite” - someone prays to someone who is departed, doesn’t know if they are heard, assumes they were the cause, a committee stamps a big yes on it, and then the number is tallied to proclaim someone a saint.
It is all bogus.
Why don’t you go find something useful to do instead of harassing Catholics?
“God doesnt certify them.”
He does - through the Church to which He gave authority.
“No where in Scripture is there a certifying body.”
False. The Apostles served as the certify body in the early Church. Peter, for instance, explains the gift of tongues (a miracle). That would show a recognition of the miracle as a miracle.
“Peter walked down the street and as his shadow fell on people they were healed.”
Yes.
“Today, we have miracles lite - someone prays to someone who is departed, doesnt know if they are heard, assumes they were the cause, a committee stamps a big yes on it, and then the number is tallied to proclaim someone a saint.”
Miracle lite? If someone is healed, it isn’t “lite”. It is “kabod” (”heavy”, “glory”: Strong’s #3519b).
“It is all bogus.”
Nope. Christ - working through Padre Pio - healed Gemma who was born blind because she was born without pupils. Afterward she could see. She STILL has no pupils. That’s impossible. It’s also true. A birth defect cannot defeat God.
It says believers are called to become saints. Not that believers are saints.
Think of it as making it into the Hall of Fame, to be an example to the other mere mortal saints. ;^)
“But the man is dead.”
No, he is alive in Christ in Heaven. His body is dead - for now. He, however, is very much alive.
“He knows nothing.”
He is part of the cloud of witnesses (12:1-2). He knows everything that God wants him to know.
“He’s awaiting resurrection like everyone else.”
Yes, but he is already in Heaven and very much alive with Christ.
“All you holy men and women, pray for us!”
First, a person is pronounced "Venerable." Second, a person is pronounced "Blessed", and Third, a person is pronounced a "Saint."

John Paul II’s body may be dead, but his soul is alive. Remember when Christ opened up the graves and the people from previous eras walked about Jerusalem, visible only to the believers?
It seems odd that a non-Catholic is trying to tell Catholics what to believe....don’t you think?
Ping!
If you are not a Catholic and wish to educate yourself regarding our beliefs, please see Salvation’s excellent reference in post #15.
If you are not a Catholic and simply wish to tell us how wrong our beliefs are, please move along to another thread.
And, if you presume to know it all...then you must think you’re God. Word up: God doesn’t use the internet!
Well shoot, maybe God doesn't even exist...Even if he does, we sure don't need him...
I'll have to keep my eyes and ears open...Ghosts of Mary talking to me...Pictures of popes talking to me...Saints keeping my tires from going flat...Others to keep the sewer unplugged...
“He does - through the Church to which He gave authority.”
No where in Scripture is there a command, example or instructions for this function. It is made up out of whole cloth.
“The Apostles served as the certify body in the early Church.”
Great! List some miracles they certified as miracles.
“Peter, for instance, explains the gift of tongues (a miracle). That would show a recognition of the miracle as a miracle.”
Tongues are a spiritual gift and not a miracle. The instructions in scripture concern proper use of spiritual gifts.
Peter walked down the street and as his shadow fell on people they were healed.
“Miracle lite?”
The unverifiable part is that there is no way to prove or disprove this person had any connection. It is an opinion.
“Nope. Christ - working through Padre Pio - healed Gemma who was born blind because she was born without pupils.”
Still an opinion of how it happened.
Nor, of course is a miracle required for anyone to become a saint - other than the amazing miracle of exchanging His righteousness for our sinfulness.
