A new Westmoreland grocery isn't even open yet and already its owner has created a controversy with statements she made online. But the owner told KGW Thursday she wants to make amends.
In about one week Chauncy Childs plans to open her natural grocer on Southeast Milwaukie Avenue. But after a series of postings she made on her Facebook page, she now finds herself at the often dangerous intersection where social media and gay rights meet.
The Moreland Farmer's Pantry will offer fresh produce, raw milk and foods that are free of genetic engineering.
Westmoreland resident Sean O’Riordan was looking forward to the store opening. But his neighbors started expressing concern to him.
“People were then starting to say, ‘Did you see the owner’s Facebook page?” O’Riordan said.
O'Riordan didn't like the store owner's posts regarding gay people and same sex marriage. For him it's very personal. He lost his gay brother to AIDS.

That is exactly what is already happening. There is a boycott being organized by the lesbian owner of a beauty salon across the street from the grocery.

There is no correlation between child molesting, being gay, and having AIDs. Pedophiles are a completely different breed of snake. Most gay adults get AIDs from unprotected sex. For that matter most straight people who get AIDs get it from unprotected sex. I knew a man who had a gay outcall service. Most of his customers were married men from the suburbs. The major local paper ran a series of articles on AIDs/HIV in 1985, and 1/2 his business was lost immediately.
The first thing I do when a new grocery store opens up is look up the owner on facebook to see if they agree with me politically. Seriously, WTF? What kind of hippy idiot does that?
That said the owner is too stupid for words for posting under her own name that businesses should have a right to refuse service to gays (”not that I would I ever do that”). Asking for trouble.
