Where Lois Lerner goes, drama follows.
On Wednesday, the former IRS officer again invoked the Fifth before the House Oversight Committee. That precipitated a heated exchange between the committees Republican chairman, Darrell Issa, and Democratic ranking member Elijah Cummings, who called the hearings un-American. And that spat has become the story.
No doubt that is exactly what Cummings had in mind. Because it distracts attention from the substance of the hearings and from the questions raised by e-mails and public remarks Lois Lerner wrote, received or made when she was IRS Director of Tax Exempt Organizations. The Weekly Standard reminds us of the main ones: Why did Lerner describe the Tea Party matter as very dangerous? What made her worry that a c4 project (looking at how nonprofits and unions are abiding by IRS rules) could be construed as a per se political project? What was meant by an email she received saying discussions about new regulations would be addressed off-plan? When she complained in public that everyone was screaming at the IRS to fix the problem created by the Supreme Court ruling in Citizens United which affirmed the free-speech rights of corporations who was everyone? And by fixing the problem, did she mean effectively subverting the ruling?
In this context, its not surprising that Democrats have pooh-poohed the investigation. The record shows Democratic pols, including New Yorks Sen. Chuck Schumer, among the screamers insisting the IRS investigate conservative outfits.
The questions raised by Lois Lerners own comments and e-mails remain compelling.

What is she hiding? The truth.
She’s not hiding a Smidgen of impropriety she’s hiding a BOATLOAD of SCANDALS.....PRISON WORTHY SCANDALS!!
Cummings and Lerner have CONSPIRED to protect
their dear First Moslem Fraud.
The protection is nothing more than
obstruction of justice and misprision of felony.
Her great personality and good looks?
Has that patent arrogant ObamaMussolini head tilt down pat. There is evil under those eyelids.
Mafia Omerta was never enforced as ruthlessly as in the last two rat administrations.
She is hiding information that could potentionally remove the current occupant of 1600 Penn Ave. He’s done what Nixon only dreamed of doing. If that were not the case, she would’ve been told by her boss to tell the truth. It was in response to the Supremes ruling on political donations by corporations. Remember the scolding they got at the state of the union speech and judge Alito’s lip response?
Given the behavior of Cummings yesterday, I’d say the Slowest Lerner is hiding a Cummings connection.
This turkey neck arrogant thing is protecting her boss who allowed screaming bearded savages to murder Americans because he loves the bearded savages more than Americans.
More and more of his underlings are taking that stance. It reminds me of the TV series “Cult” There’s a line they used all the time where one cultist would always end up saying “well, hey, these things just snap right off.” Usually afterwards something bad happens.
The exchange was not heated.
Issa was cool. He ignored the bald headed 222222 knowing his purpose was to blather some propaganda.
The bald headed one was heated because he failed to do his job. He came off looking like an incompetent .
Bingo.
You’re right. And I’m not sure what we can do about it. All our laws - and our constitution - depend on the basic willingness of people to go along with them. Obama, like Clinton before him but much more egregiously so, simply regards them as worth less than the paper they’re written on. They’re not even suggestions, in his mind, and we have no power to enforce them unless the government acknowledges their validity.
Wasn’t Holder found in contempt himself? And what was the effect of that? He just ignored it.
Also, there’s no way he’s going to appoint a Special Prosecutor.
Calling Judge Sirica.
Sirica kept the Watergate burglars in jail until one of them squealed. Surely someone has violated the law that can be incarcerated till he squawks.
Republicans are not playing hard ball. This was another show trial to appease the Tea Party they not so secretly despise.
